Position Overview

As the Lead Compliance Strategist and Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), you will play a pivotal role in managing CoinJar's compliance operations within the UK. Your key responsibility will be to ensure adherence to pertinent UK legislation, regulations, and guidelines, supported by CoinJar's comprehensive legal, compliance, and financial crime teams.

CoinJar, a prominent player in the global fintech landscape, has been facilitating the buying, selling, and trading of cryptocurrencies for over a decade. CoinJar UK Limited is duly registered with the FCA for cryptoasset activities and upholds a robust compliance framework. You will work closely with international product and operational teams to navigate the continuously changing landscape of cryptocurrency regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about the latest regulatory developments in the UK concerning cryptoassets and manage internal compliance initiatives in collaboration with various CoinJar teams to maintain compliance.
  • Oversee the company's anti-money laundering (AML) and counter-terrorism financing (CTF) policies, procedures, and controls to align with UK regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to both global and local risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential risks within the organization.
  • Receive and evaluate internal suspicious activity reports (SARs), conducting thorough investigations and making informed decisions regarding submissions to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
  • Serve as the primary liaison for the FCA and law enforcement agencies, ensuring timely responses to information requests.
  • Keep abreast of changes in cryptoasset regulations and legislation, ensuring that the company's policies and procedures are consistently reviewed and updated.
  • Supervise and assess customer due diligence (CDD) and transaction monitoring processes executed by CoinJar's Financial Crime Operations team.
  • Coordinate and facilitate internal and external audits, ensuring all necessary documentation and reports are prepared promptly.
  • Review communications issued by CoinJar to ensure clarity, fairness, and compliance with marketing standards.
  • Keep senior management updated on developments, risks, and issues related to cryptoasset regulations, providing regular reports.

Qualifications

  • A degree in finance, business, law, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar compliance role within the financial services sector.
  • Familiarity with cryptoassets and associated financial crime typologies.
  • Strong knowledge of AML/CTF frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proven track record of identifying and mitigating risks effectively.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging and collaborating with stakeholders across global teams.
  • Professional certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) or equivalent are advantageous.
  • Ability to obtain regulatory approval for the SMF17 role, overseeing the money laundering reporting function.
  • Experience with AML/CTF technology solutions and data visualization tools.
