The British Geological Survey (BGS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Director of National Geoscience. As a key member of the Senior Management Board, you will play a crucial role in shaping the strategic direction of the BGS and driving the delivery of its science strategy.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the development and implementation of the BGS's science strategy, ensuring alignment with the organisation's overall goals and objectives.
- Oversee the delivery of the BGS's programme of geological mapping and modelling, ensuring that it meets the needs of stakeholders and contributes to the advancement of geoscience.
- Represent the BGS at national and international level, building relationships with key partners and stakeholders to promote the organisation's work and interests.
- Work closely with the BGS's Science Advisory Committee and the BGS Board to ensure that the organisation's science strategy is aligned with its overall goals and objectives.
- Lead the development of a secure pipeline of external income to support the BGS's programme of work.
- PhD in a relevant science field or equivalent experience.
- Strong track record of senior management and leadership experience, with a proven ability to set direction and develop strategy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience of securing external funding and developing partnerships with key stakeholders.
- Awareness of the BGS's strategy and public science role, as well as wider earth science sector issues.
