Job Title: Independent Domestic Violence Advisor

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Independent Domestic Violence Advisor to join our team at Red Snapper Recruitment. As an IDVA, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality support to victims of domestic abuse, ensuring their safety and well-being.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and delivering a proactive service to high-risk victims of domestic abuse, working collaboratively with multi-agency partners to establish a comprehensive response to domestic abuse. You will provide individualized support, safety planning, and advocacy to victims, ensuring they have access to the necessary resources and services to keep them and their children safe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinating and contributing to the provision of a high-quality DA support service, promoting user independence and ensuring high service standards are achieved and maintained.
  • Identifying risks to and needs of domestic abuse victims using a Safelives recognized risk assessment.
  • Providing proactive, short to medium-term crisis intervention services through individual safety planning and personal support.
  • Working with high-risk victims of domestic abuse to help them access services to keep them and their children safe.
  • Advocating for high-risk victims with agencies, providing advocacy, emotional, and practical support, and information on legal options, housing, health, and finance.
  • Collaborating with MARAC on identified client needs and working with the Criminal Justice System to support victims prior to, during, and after court hearings.
  • Managing a caseload, ensuring each client receives the appropriate service tailored to their needs.
  • Working in collaboration with stakeholders and partners to actively help and support the identification and reduction of safeguarding risks to vulnerable residents of the borough.
  • Providing an advice and information service to male victims of domestic abuse in crisis, offering short-term interventions to manage safety and provide knowledge to navigate legal and civil options.
  • Maintaining clear and accurate recording of client notes, written reports, and monitoring forms, contributing to organizational reporting on outcomes.
Requirements
  • Good level of general education.
  • Excellent standard of literacy, numeracy, and IT competency.
  • Strong case management skills.
  • Awareness of the impact of crime on victims, witnesses, and the wider community.
  • Sound knowledge of the impact of abuse and trauma on victims.
  • Awareness of legal and housing issues affecting families escaping domestic violence.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the criminal and civil justice systems, safeguarding children and vulnerable adults, and associated legal responsibilities.
  • Completion of Safelives training or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with high-risk victims of domestic abuse, providing advice, support, and direct assistance.
  • Experience of holding a complex caseload, crisis management, completing risk assessments, and creating safety plans with victims of domestic abuse.
  • Ability to communicate positively and assertively with people at all levels.
  • Ability to write and present reports, undertake calculations, produce letters, and other documentation.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary of £13.99 per hour and a 3-month fixed-term contract. You will work 37 hours per week, and we require a current driving license and access to a vehicle.
