Position Overview

We are seeking a Clinical Equipment Support Technician to become a vital member of our Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering Department, specifically within the EBME Internal and Clinical Equipment Resource Library (CERL) section. The successful candidate will be tasked with the collection and transportation of medical apparatus, including beds and mattresses, from various clinical areas to the CERL for thorough cleaning, decontamination, and maintenance. This role also encompasses conducting basic electrical safety assessments, performing repairs, and executing Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) while meticulously documenting all relevant information in our medical devices database.

The role requires a commitment to maintaining high operational standards, ensuring minimal service interruptions, and fostering effective professional relationships with clinical staff.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Equipment Support Technician will be primarily stationed in the EBME Internal and CERL section, with responsibilities including:

  1. Transporting medical equipment between clinical wards and the CERL workshop for cleaning, maintenance, or repair.
  2. Executing cleaning and decontamination procedures for medical equipment in accordance with established protocols.
  3. Conducting electrical safety checks and basic maintenance tasks, including PPM and repairs, in compliance with set guidelines.
  4. Maintaining accurate records of cleaning, decontamination, and maintenance activities within the CERL database.
  5. Assisting clinical technologists with routine operational tasks, including record-keeping, communication with clinical areas, and responding to inquiries.
  6. Participating in the procurement and collection of cleaning supplies and other necessary materials.
  7. Supporting general administrative functions within the section.
  8. Contributing to audit and quality assurance initiatives aimed at enhancing service delivery.
  9. Managing the check-in and check-out process for library equipment, ensuring stock levels are consistently monitored and maintained.
  10. Providing assistance to CERL staff with badge-related duties, including decontamination and battery replacement.
  11. Demonstrating flexibility to meet the evolving needs of the department.

Work Environment

The service operates seven days a week, with standard hours typically spread over five days. The role may require on-call duties and the ability to work outside of regular hours as necessary. Flexibility and a willingness to negotiate working hours are essential.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential:

  • Minimum of 5 GCSE passes at Grade 4 (previously C) or above, including Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Basic understanding of decontamination techniques.
  • Computer literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, gained through training or prior experience.
  • Willingness to develop new skills, including decontamination techniques and computer-based systems.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative.
