Morson Talent is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to enhance the mechanical infrastructure and building services engineering for various projects related to infrastructure and accommodation/welfare. This role will function as an intelligent customer within a multi-disciplinary project team, ensuring the successful delivery of a diverse range of projects across the UK assets.
The responsibilities of this position typically encompass:
- Development of user requirements, scope of works documents, specifications, and tender packages
- Creation of design management plans and evaluation of existing procedures
- Grading and categorization of projects/systems based on quality, hazards, environmental impact, and complexity
- Identification of constraints and compliance with statutory requirements
- Preparation of RFQs and assessment of responses
- Addressing RFIs/TQs
- Conducting feasibility studies and optioneering assessments
- Initiating scoping and preliminary design solutions
- Performing detailed design calculations and scoping
- Proposing solutions to meet green credentials and net-zero targets for systems and projects
- Implementation of safe working systems
- Reviewing third-party design packages
- Acceptance of contractor design documentation
- Overseeing day-to-day contractor technical delivery
- Leading and contributing to design reviews across disciplines
- Experience with risk management procedures
- Collaborating within a cohesive project team and liaising with other disciplines
Required Experience:
- HND in a relevant engineering discipline
Preferred Qualifications:
- Degree in Building Services or a related field
- A minimum of 7 years' experience as a design engineer for consultancy or design & build contractors
The ideal candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of piped services, including domestic hot and cold water, foul water drainage, and various other piped services such as LTHW, CHW, refrigerants, condensate, and natural gas. Knowledge of ventilation and air conditioning systems, including VRF and fan coil systems, is also essential.
While a background in nuclear ventilation and services design engineering is not mandatory, a solid grasp of design principles and project procedures from inception to handover is required. Familiarity with standards and statutory requirements, such as Building Regulations and Water Regulations, is advantageous.
Proficiency in creating solutions, reviewing, and adapting designs is crucial. An understanding of AutoCAD is beneficial, and familiarity with 3D modeling tools such as Revit, Navisworks, or Inventor would be a plus.
