Job Summary:

This Band 7 Clinical Scientist role supports all aspects of the department's work: ionising radiation protection, optical radiation protection, including lasers and ultraviolet light, electromagnetic fields and support to Radiology. The distribution and focus of work will depend both on the needs of the service and the skills of the postholder.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supporting users of ionising or optical radiation, assessing the safety requirements of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Carrying out UV or X-ray equipment performance testing
  • Working with clinical staff on X-ray optimisation projects
  • Leading X-ray equipment performance testing
  • Training a variety of staff groups in radiation safety
  • Auditing safety and compliance with IRR, CAORWR, IRMER and EPR regulations
