Live-In Care Assistant

Job Summary
Home Instead is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Live-In Care Assistant to provide high-quality care and support to our clients in their own homes. As a Live-In Care Assistant, you will be responsible for providing a range of non-medical services that enhance the quality of life for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide live-in care, usually working alone, to support clients with their daily needs and activities.
- Reflect the core values of Home Instead, including dignity, respect, and compassion.
- Contribute to a positive living environment that enhances the client's quality of life.
- Follow the client's house rules and be mindful of their need for privacy.
- Document daily activities and report any changes or concerns in the client's needs or living conditions.
- Seek help and advice when needed to keep clients safe and promote their well-being.
- Maintain regular communication with line managers and office staff.
Companionship Services
As a Live-In Care Assistant, you will provide companionship and social interaction to our clients, including:
- Offering companionship and conversation.
- Monitoring diet and eating habits.
- Stimulating and encouraging clients through various activities, such as hobbies and crafts.
- Arranging and providing reminders for appointments, activities, and outings.
- Helping with travel arrangements.
- Organizing mail and writing letters.
- Assisting with walking and providing support with daily tasks.
- Accompanying clients to appointments and social events.
Home Help Services
You will also provide home help services, including:
- Running errands and collecting prescriptions.
- Performing light housekeeping tasks, such as dusting, vacuuming, and cleaning.
- Organizing and tidying cupboards and checking food expiry dates.
- Planning, preparing, and tidying away meals.
- Answering the door and assisting with pet care.
- Supervising home maintenance and helping with shopping.
Personal Care Services
As a Live-In Care Assistant, you will also provide personal care services, including:
- Providing medication reminders.
- Assisting with bathing, dressing, and grooming.
- Helping with continence care.
- Assisting with eating and drinking.
- Providing dementia and Alzheimer's care.
- Providing respite and convalescence care.
- Assisting with morning and evening routines.
- Documenting client information in the Client and Life Journal.
Essential Criteria
To be successful as a Live-In Care Assistant, you will need to possess the following essential criteria:
- Ability to treat and care for clients and their property with dignity and respect.
- Ability to adapt to various living environments and locations.
- Ability to listen, communicate clearly, and build relationships with clients and their families.
- Willingness to work and communicate professionally with Home Instead office teams and other social and healthcare professionals.
- Respect for people suffering from a range of medical conditions with different backgrounds and beliefs.
- Ability to seek guidance when needed and follow instructions.
- Excellent time-keeping and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and make common sense decisions at short notice.
- Good hygiene practice and a smart appearance.
- Good level of stamina and fitness to meet the physical demands of the job.
What We Offer
As a Live-In Care Assistant with Home Instead, you will receive:
- On-going support and training.
- Live-In care roles in the Belfast and Co Down areas.
- Weekly pay rate of £12.50 per hour.
- Food allowance.
- Time off in between placements.
- Local clients with less time traveling.
Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you will need to possess the following qualifications:
- Minimum one year's recent experience in care.
- Fluent in writing and speaking English.
- Valid enhanced Access NI check.
- Internet access and your own smartphone.
- Previous experience and training as a Care Assistant.
- Full UK clean driving license and access to a reliable car (preferred).
