Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of medical professionals at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Gastroenterology Consultant. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of our Gastroenterology service.

Main Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement effective strategies to strengthen the delivery of our Gastroenterology service across the hospital and community.
  • Forge strong links between Gastroenterology and Acute Medicine to improve patient outcomes.
  • Liaise with relevant hospital departments, local General Practitioners, Nurses, and Paramedical Staff to develop working policies and procedures.
  • Develop innovative practices in clinical patient management, focusing on high-quality care and community management where appropriate.
  • Develop the use of nurse practitioners and paramedical staff in the hospital and community.
  • Develop a subspecialty interest and contribute to the development of our Gastroenterology service.
  • Maintain close links with Gastroenterology colleagues across the trust.
  • Provide a 7-day service with colleagues as resources allow.
  • Teach and train undergraduates, postgraduates, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Contribute to quality assurance and individual practice.
  • Share responsibility for teaching and training with colleagues.
  • Ensure active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • MRCP or equivalent.
  • You must be on the specialist register for Gastroenterology & Medicine or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK.
  • Applicants must continue to hold a Licence to Practise.

Desirable Criteria

  • Completion of Higher Medical/Gastroenterology Degree or equivalent.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Gastro Intestinal and common medical conditions.
  • Ability to perform Upper Endoscopy and Colonoscopy (JAG accredited).
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions.

Desirable Criteria

  • Advanced Endoscopy.
  • Attendance at a recognised management course.

Teaching and Training

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non-medical staff.

Desirable Criteria

  • Academic achievements/evidence of familiarity with research methods which have resulted in publications.
  • Training in clinical and educational supervision.
  • Attendance at a teaching course.
  • Formal qualification in teaching/education.

Audit and Research

Essential Criteria

  • Knowledge of Audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects and the implementation of outcomes.

Desirable Criteria

  • Critical Appraisal Skills.
  • Evidence of knowledge of research methodology.

Personal Qualities

Essential Criteria

  • Ability to use IT Systems – inc Word, Excel, PowerPoint Outlook.
  • Evidence of innovation.

Desirable Criteria

  • Evidence of continual learning and development.
  • Understands self (strengths and weaknesses) and impact of behaviour on others.

  • Eligibility to work in the UK.
