About Our School

Polaris Community is an independent specialist provision serving children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

We provide high-quality education, adopting a holistic and tailored approach, complemented by a full range of support services, for each and every one of our pupils.

Role Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils with SEMH needs in a dedicated capacity, fostering positive relationships and driving interaction and learning outcomes.
  • Collaborating with the Classroom Teacher to deliver lessons and provide individualized support.
  • Reporting on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaising with other school staff to ensure pupils' needs are met.
  • Supervising pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips.
  • Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation, setting work where appropriate, and marking.
  • Developing and implementing strategies to support pupils' emotional and behavioral needs.

Requirements

  • A strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, and sound IT skills.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting.
  • Ability to lead on a specialism, such as Reading, Mathematics, or Forest School.
  • Experience of behavior management and techniques.
  • Commitment to professional development and willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to commencing work.
