Job Description

**Job Title:** Driver Manager

**Location:** Remote

**Salary:** £75, rising to £79 after 6 months

We are seeking an experienced Driver Manager to join our team at Avanti West Coast. As a key member of our Driver Management Team, you will be responsible for upholding high standards in operational delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assure the competence of drivers through assessment, proactive and reactive improvement plans, and application of the competency management system.
  • Support the safe introduction of new drivers, routes, traction, and equipment.
  • Work closely with Operations Standards, Network Rail, and staff representatives to implement strategies to improve operational safety performance and continually improve driver capability and skills.
  • Undertake detailed and quality investigation of operational and occupational safety incidents with a focus on establishing causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with other teams within Avanti and Network Rail to formulate and deliver initiatives to improve train service performance and resilience.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years' current UK mainline competence as a train driver.
  • Detailed knowledge of Avanti West Coast routes, infrastructure, and rolling stock.
  • Understanding of competency techniques and operational risk management.
  • Basic knowledge of HR processes and practices.
  • Familiarity with IT systems such as Microsoft Office applications, TRUST, Bugle, and OTDR analysis.
  • A coaching leadership style and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to make decisions based on factual information and excellent listening skills.
  • Experience in leading teams and managing people and processes.
