Note: Pay Award Pending

This position is not open to international sponsorship.

As a member of the Care Finance Assessment Team, you will have the flexibility to work from home while also conducting visits to clients in their residences throughout the region. Attendance at the office for meetings and training sessions will be required as necessary.

Lancashire, being the fourth largest local authority in England, serves a diverse population of approximately 1.2 million residents. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to join our dynamic team, focusing on financial reassessments for adults receiving care services in their homes or communities.

Your primary responsibility will be to perform financial reassessments in accordance with national and local regulations, determining the contributions clients can make towards their social care services. Familiarity with the Care Act 2014 is beneficial, as it governs our assessment processes. You will be tasked with explaining the calculation of charges to clients and conducting welfare benefit assessments using the Department for Work & Pensions system, guiding individuals to claim benefits they may be eligible for but are not currently receiving.

Effective communication skills are essential, particularly the ability to engage with clients sensitively and empathetically during potentially challenging times.

This role is designated as agile, with an administrative base at County Hall. You will also participate in training, team meetings, and management task days at various locations across the county. A full driving license and access to a vehicle for work-related duties are required, although considerations may be made for candidates unable to drive due to disability. This is classified as an essential car user position.

To facilitate financial assessments, necessary equipment such as laptops and portable printers will be provided. It is crucial to submit a supporting statement with your application, demonstrating how your skills and experiences align with the requirements outlined in the Person Specification and Role Profile. Without this evidence, the panel may not be able to shortlist your application.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting both telephone and in-person home visits to carry out social care financial assessments.
  • Ensuring all interactions are handled appropriately, respecting the diverse needs of our clients and responding with sensitivity and support.
  • Liaising with colleagues across various departments to address client requests and concerns, and directing them to relevant resources and partner agencies.
  • Meeting performance targets as established by the Head of Service, while independently managing your workload to achieve objectives within designated timeframes.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Significant administrative experience in an office environment.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and in social care finance or welfare benefits assessment.
  • Prior experience in financial assessments is advantageous, though comprehensive training will be provided.
  • Knowledge of Department of Work and Pensions benefit entitlements is desirable.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills, with a proficiency in handling numerical data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, including the capacity to draft formal correspondence and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to conduct assessments sensitively and supportively, utilizing technology effectively, and contributing ideas for service improvement.

Additional Information:

This position is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975. Successful candidates will be required to apply for a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Benefits: Lancashire County Council offers a range of benefits, which can be found on the LCC Vacancies website.

Please ensure your supporting statement is uploaded with your application, as it is essential for the shortlisting process.

The vacancy may close early if sufficient applications are received.
