As a key member of TIAA's Risk Management Team, the individual will play a pivotal role in overseeing and challenging the investment management and advisory functions within the Real Estate sector. This position will serve as a trusted advisor to regional business partners and leadership teams across EMEA & APAC, acting as a subject matter expert in investment risk management. The role involves collaboration with global colleagues, focusing on investment risk oversight, governance, and reporting for both equity and debt investments in Real Estate.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the establishment and implementation of a unified framework for independent investment risk oversight, guidance, and challenge, particularly concerning new product strategies, existing portfolio construction, investment selection, performance evaluation, and other investment-related controls.
  • Foster the adoption of the investment risk framework and culture throughout the EMEA & APAC Real Estate business, providing training and support to ensure consistent application across regions.
  • Aid in the assessment, evaluation, and reporting of investment risk across all areas, including regular and ad hoc risk analysis.
  • Serve as the expert on portfolio liquidity risk within TIAA Real Estate, conducting liquidity risk reporting and stress testing.
  • Represent the Risk Management function in relevant operational committees across EMEA & APAC, ensuring alignment with TIAA Risk Management objectives.
  • Engage in quarterly meetings with portfolio managers to discuss performance, compliance with limits/guidelines, and significant market developments.
  • Continuously oversee compliance with risk limits and fund guidelines throughout the investment lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of Investment Risk dashboards and reports.
  • Support the analysis, scenario testing, and reporting of emerging risks.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide insights into the development and maintenance of TIAA's broader risk framework, including the Risk Appetite Statement and relevant policies.
  • Promote a positive risk culture within the European business by building and nurturing key relationships, offering advice on risk management issues, and demonstrating the benefits of such a culture to senior management.

  • Must be a collaborative team player, as this role involves interaction with risk colleagues and business partners across various global locations.
  • Should be a disciplined and self-motivated individual capable of working independently and achieving results with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to effectively influence and collaborate with other departments, as this role requires advising and overseeing a range of first-line functions.
