Information Security Specialist

Burman Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Information Security Specialist to enhance the protection of digital resources and safeguard sensitive information within a Higher Education institution.
Experience in Higher Education is a prerequisite.
Role Summary: In the capacity of an Information Security Specialist, you will be tasked with the design, execution, and upkeep of security protocols aimed at defending the organization’s IT infrastructure, networks, and data integrity. Collaboration with IT and various departments will be essential to identify and address security vulnerabilities, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of critical information.
Core Responsibilities:
- Formulate and enforce security policies, guidelines, and procedures.
- Perform routine security evaluations, including vulnerability assessments and penetration tests.
- Oversee and interpret security alerts and reports, addressing security incidents in a timely manner.
- Set up and manage security solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and antivirus applications.
- Deliver security awareness training sessions for staff members.
- Ensure adherence to industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO/IEC).
- Work alongside IT teams to architect secure network designs.
- Remain informed about the latest security developments, threats, and technological advancements.
- Compile and present security analysis and recommendations to leadership.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in information security or a similar field.
- Comprehensive knowledge of network security, operating systems, and software vulnerabilities.
- Proficiency with security technologies and tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint protection solutions.
- Understanding of cryptographic protocols and security frameworks.
- Familiarity with compliance requirements and standards (e.g., NIST, PCI-DSS).
- Exceptional analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Preferred Certifications:
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
- CompTIA Security+
- Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)
