We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Chief Engineer to join our Data Centre Engineering Operations Team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre facilities, including mechanical equipment, electrical systems, and fire/life safety equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Leadership and Management: Provide strategic leadership and management to the DCEO Engineering Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and the achievement of business objectives.
  2. Performance Benchmarking and Reporting: Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance, including data centre capacity planning and reporting.
  3. On-Site Management: Oversee the on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of data centre facilities.
  4. Critical Systems Management: Manage and oversee the operation and maintenance of critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, and computer room air handlers.
  5. Data Centre Capacity Planning: Develop and implement data centre capacity plans, ensuring the efficient use of resources and the achievement of business objectives.
  6. Project Management: Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities, working closely with IT managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
  7. Customer Service: Deliver high-quality service to customers, ensuring that all customer demands are met and exceeded.
  8. Asset and Inventory Management: Responsible for asset and inventory management, ensuring that all data centre assets are properly maintained and inventoried.
  9. Emergency Response: Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls, serving as a second-level escalation point for data centre facilities-related issues and failures.
Requirements
  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Experience: Extensive industry-related experience with in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
  3. Skills: Proficient with IT programs such as Microsoft Office products, experience in operations and on-call support for data centre facilities, or mission-critical plants/production facilities, with the ability to demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies and theory.
  4. Desirable Qualifications: Master's degree in a technical field, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent. Project management experience is also desirable.
