We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mechanical Chief Engineer to join our Data Centre Engineering Operations Team at Amazon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centre facilities, including mechanical equipment, electrical systems, and fire/life safety equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership and Management: Provide strategic leadership and management to the DCEO Engineering Team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services and the achievement of business objectives.
- Performance Benchmarking and Reporting: Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on all aspects of critical facility operations and maintenance, including data centre capacity planning and reporting.
- On-Site Management: Oversee the on-site management of shift technicians, senior shift technicians, sub-contractors, and vendors, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of data centre facilities.
- Critical Systems Management: Manage and oversee the operation and maintenance of critical systems, including switchgear, generators, UPS systems, power distribution equipment, chillers, cooling towers, and computer room air handlers.
- Data Centre Capacity Planning: Develop and implement data centre capacity plans, ensuring the efficient use of resources and the achievement of business objectives.
- Project Management: Assist in the design and build-out of new facilities, working closely with IT managers and other business leaders to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize plant safety, performance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Customer Service: Deliver high-quality service to customers, ensuring that all customer demands are met and exceeded.
- Asset and Inventory Management: Responsible for asset and inventory management, ensuring that all data centre assets are properly maintained and inventoried.
- Emergency Response: Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls, serving as a second-level escalation point for data centre facilities-related issues and failures.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience: Extensive industry-related experience with in-depth knowledge of UPS, backup generator systems, and generic mechanical-room infrastructure.
- Skills: Proficient with IT programs such as Microsoft Office products, experience in operations and on-call support for data centre facilities, or mission-critical plants/production facilities, with the ability to demonstrate key electrical and mechanical competencies and theory.
- Desirable Qualifications: Master's degree in a technical field, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent. Project management experience is also desirable.
