Job Title: Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lecturer in Carpentry and Joinery to join our team at Bournemouth & Poole College. As a Lecturer, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning to our students, ensuring they develop the skills and knowledge required to succeed in their chosen career.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver excellent quality teaching and learning to a range of students, including those with varying levels of experience and ability.
  • Embed employability and employer engagement activities into our programmes, ensuring our students are equipped with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the industry.
  • Support community and personal enrichment activities, including trips related to learning, to enhance the student experience.
  • Prepare schemes of learning, lesson plans, assignment schedules, and learning materials for curriculum delivery, ensuring our students receive a comprehensive and engaging education.
  • Actively promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion, and health and safety in all aspects of college life, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students.
  • Mark students' work with developmental feedback, providing constructive guidance to help them improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Report student progress, ensuring that students receive regular feedback and support to help them achieve their goals.
  • Participate in curriculum development activities, contributing to the design and delivery of our programmes to ensure they remain relevant and effective.
  • Participate in the recruitment of students and the student admissions process, helping to attract and select the best candidates for our programmes.
  • Represent the College at internal and external events and meetings, promoting our programmes and services to a range of stakeholders.
  • Participate in all aspects of the College's quality process, ensuring that our programmes meet the highest standards of quality and excellence.
  • Internal verification, ensuring that our programmes are delivered to the highest standards and that our students receive a comprehensive and engaging education.
  • Continually maintain, undertake, and meet any relevant CPD requirements, ensuring that your skills and knowledge remain up-to-date and relevant to the industry.
  • Liaise with parents/guardians, providing regular updates and support to help them understand their child's progress and development.
Requirements:
  • NVQ level 2 or Craft certificate in Carpentry & Joinery.
  • Maths and English at Level 2 equivalent or willing to work towards.
  • 1st fix, 2nd fix, and cut roof/trusses.
  • 5 years minimum industry experience in Carpentry and Joinery.
  • Knowledge of current evidence-based practice in the field(s) of expertise.
  • Communication skills, including written and verbal.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent organisational skills, able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Attendance at college events, including open evenings, outside of normal working hours.

  • Up to £3, one-off incentive will be awarded based on achievement of the probation period (based on skills, experience, and current salary, a decision will be made at offer of the exact amount).
  • Depending on skills set and experiences linked to the job specification.
  • Candidate needs to be in post for 18 months following successful completion of probation, otherwise full payback will be required.
