Base Materials Ltd is a chemical engineering enterprise operating across two locations, specializing in the production of innovative styling, modeling, and tooling materials essential for crafting high-quality precision molds, master models, jigs, and fixtures. Our diverse applications span various industries, including automotive, aerospace, motorsport, marine, and other industrial sectors.

As part of our strategic expansion, we are looking to enhance our internal capabilities with a newly defined Project Manager position. In this role, you will oversee the comprehensive management of long-term, multi-stage projects. Initially, you will collaborate with the commercial team to generate quotes, pricing, and lead times for clients. Once an order is confirmed, you will work closely with engineering to develop the Bill of Materials (BOM) and related operational documentation, subsequently managing the workflow through the production process until the order is fulfilled. You will be responsible for managing both internal resources and external partners to ensure the seamless execution of multiple, intricate projects. Your goal will be to deliver projects on schedule, within the defined scope, and on budget while keeping clients informed of progress against the project timeline.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define project scopes and objectives, engaging all relevant stakeholders while ensuring technical and engineering feasibility.
  • Create a detailed project plan to monitor progress.
  • Schedule and oversee job completion, ensuring quality standards are met from the outset.
  • Develop basic revenue models and profit/loss statements; achieve financial goals by forecasting needs, preparing budgets, scheduling expenditures, analyzing variances, and initiating corrective actions.
  • Manage daily operational aspects of the projects.
  • Ensure resource availability and allocation, adapting to changing requirements and responsibilities, including relevant service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Utilize appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, timelines, and costs.
  • Maintain communication with clients to keep them updated.
  • Assess project performance using relevant systems, tools, and methodologies.
  • Foster relationships with stakeholders.
  • Implement risk management strategies to minimize project risks.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with third-party suppliers while collaborating closely with internal quality and procurement teams.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation.
  • Regularly report project status to stakeholders, including updates to senior management.
  • Apply lean manufacturing principles (such as Six Sigma and 5S) to achieve a 'right first time' approach, aiming for zero defects at dispatch and no customer complaints.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with management regarding significant issues that may impact operational objectives.

Management and Team Development:

  • Lead by example to mentor, train, support, and develop team members, fostering a high-performance, effective, and collaborative operational team.
  • Assist with recruitment, management, disciplinary actions, and performance evaluations as necessary.
  • Ensure that operational objectives and performance standards are understood and embraced by all team members.
  • Support the growth and advancement of team members as appropriate.

Qualifications:

  • Project management training/qualification (PRINCE II preferred but not mandatory).
  • Engineering qualification, preferably a Diploma/Degree (or equivalent) in an engineering, polymer science, or technology-related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical plans and drawings.
  • Strong experience in data analysis and reporting to facilitate project management and decision-making.
  • Experience in SME manufacturing/multi-site operations, ideally from an engineering planning background.
  • Extensive knowledge of modern manufacturing techniques, with experience in Lean Six Sigma being advantageous.
  • Quality-focused with a 'right first-time' mentality and a keen eye for detail and quality control.
  • A strong work ethic with accountability, serving as an exemplary coach and role model for the team.
  • Ability to streamline operations to ensure a quality product.

Preferred but not essential:

  • Experience working to ISO9001 and ISO45001 standards.
  • Understanding of the buoyancy industry.
