We are thrilled to announce an opportunity for a Non-Medical Prescriber within our Substance Misuse Recovery Hub, located in the West Midlands Region.

The Recovery Hub represents a groundbreaking initiative designed to elevate the clinical support offered to our prison populations and patient demographics.

As a Registered Professional, you will play a crucial role in the Recovery Hub team, utilizing your advanced clinical abilities, leadership qualities, and dedication to compassionate care. The Recovery Hub team will deliver advanced clinical services both virtually and in-person to various facilities. The team comprises a Clinical Lead, Specialist SMS Nurses, Non-Medical Prescribers, and Healthcare Assistants.

This is a full-time position, operating Monday through Friday, with an annual salary of up to £49,000 based on your experience.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • Registered Nurse (Adult or Mental Health) with current NMC registration
  • Qualification as an Independent/Supplementary Prescriber and experience in nurse prescribing
  • Background in working with patients dependent on opiates
  • Experience working autonomously as a Non-Medical Prescriber post-registration

Responsibilities Overview

The successful candidate will exhibit critical thinking and compassionate care as an experienced nurse, operating within professional boundaries to provide comprehensive care for patients presenting with Substance Misuse issues. This includes initial history taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care across various sites. You will demonstrate safe and competent clinical decision-making and expert care, utilizing assessment and diagnostic skills for patients within multiple health in justice sites and through digital platforms.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough clinical assessments to identify patient needs from both physiological and psychological perspectives, planning care accordingly.
  • Diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions for patients with complex needs.
  • Prescribe and monitor medication for therapeutic effectiveness in line with patients' Substance Misuse needs and established protocols.
  • Collaborate with patients to ensure adherence to prescribed treatments.
  • Partner with other services, including psychosocial and mental health providers.
  • Provide guidance on medication regimens, side effects, and interactions.
  • Prioritize health issues and respond appropriately in complex or emergency situations.
  • Encourage patients to adopt health-promoting strategies and self-care principles.
  • Identify and refer patients with mental health needs.

Communication Skills:

  • Utilize sensitive communication techniques to ensure patients are informed and consent to treatment.
  • Assess patients through virtual platforms effectively.
  • Support patients in conveying difficult messages.
  • Communicate with patients and caregivers, recognizing the need for alternative communication methods.

Quality Service Delivery:

  • Operate within your competence and adhere to the NMC code of conduct.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of patient consultations.
  • Deliver care in accordance with NSF, NICE guidelines, and evidence-based practices.
  • Evaluate care delivery effectiveness through self and peer review.
  • Assess patient responses to healthcare provisions and the effectiveness of care.
