Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook meals in accordance with established menus and dietary standards.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality and presentation.
  • Travel to various school sites as needed to provide chef coverage.
  • Adapt to different kitchen environments and equipment.
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations, including food hygiene standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure kitchen cleanliness and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Assist in menu development, considering nutritional guidelines and student preferences.
  • Ensure meals accommodate specific dietary needs and allergies.
  • Monitor kitchen inventory and maintain adequate stock levels.
  • Order supplies as necessary and minimize waste through efficient ingredient usage.
  • Collaborate with catering teams at each location to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Provide guidance and training to kitchen staff as required.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of special events and themed days.
  • Ensure events are well-organized and food is served promptly.
  • Engage with students, staff, and school personnel in a professional manner.
  • Address any food-related inquiries or concerns effectively.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Relevant culinary qualifications or certifications.
  • Full clean UK driving license preferred.
  • Essential food safety and hygiene certification.
  • 3-5 years of experience as a chef, ideally in an institutional or school catering setting.
  • Knowledge of nutritional standards for school meals and food safety regulations.
  • Strong culinary skills and familiarity with food preparation techniques.
  • Willingness to travel between various school locations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Capacity to stand for extended periods and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Able to lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for safe operation of kitchen equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Work schedule: 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday (typically from 7am to 3:30pm).
  • Annual working weeks: 52 weeks (annual leave to be taken during school half terms).
  • Flexibility to travel to various sites is required.
