Role Overview:

Are you equipped to operate within a compact mobile team of proficient engineers executing light maintenance tasks across various train fleets? Your mission will be to consistently uphold superior standards of train interior maintenance and ensure toilet functionality as directed by the Fleet Interiors Engineering Manager, adhering to specified standards and requirements. This role is pivotal in achieving franchise goals, particularly in relation to the Passenger Experience Measure (PEM - QuEST & NRPS) annual objectives.

Key Performance Indicators (Expected Outcomes):

  • Achievement of PEM (QuEST & NRPS) annual objectives for Trains across all GTR Brands (Southern, Gatwick Express, Thameslink, and Great Northern).
  • Execution of light repair tasks and routine maintenance in accordance with vehicle specifications and the QuEST auditor handbook.
  • Safe execution of all essential Train Presentation engineering light maintenance activities, including sanding and seasonal plans as necessary.
  • Attainment of Best in Class standards for fleet interior repair quality (including toilets).
  • Timely and precise data collection, completion of documentation, and recording of actions related to performed tasks.
  • Conduct vehicle repairs, routine maintenance, or component replacements resulting from inspections, in compliance with Health & Safety policies, procedures, and responsibilities.

Desired Knowledge and Experience:

  • A minimum of two years' experience in maintaining or cleaning fleet rolling stock, or completion of a recognized electrical/mechanical apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • Training and understanding of electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of GTR policies and procedures.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety regulations, rules, and instructions, including COSHH.
  • Valid UK driving license.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficient communication skills, both verbal and written, across all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.
  • Capability to work independently or as part of a small team, often without direct supervision.
  • Commitment to working safely, accurately, and efficiently under pressure.
  • Reasonable IT proficiency and familiarity with specialized business systems.
  • Ability to interpret procedures and compile reports effectively.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving, with the ability to analyze situations and make confident decisions.
