At G&H Torquay, we specialize in the design and manufacture of advanced fibre optic components and modules that deliver exceptional performance and reliability for demanding applications. We are seeking a dedicated Product Engineer to join our Product Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring that business performance targets are met for key stakeholders, overseeing all aspects of New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, product design, and process design.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the transition of new products from initial prototypes to full-scale manufacturing, ensuring they meet specifications and cost-efficiency targets.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the NPI process and the requirements of current and future quality management systems.
  • Ensure all assigned projects comply with site accreditations and collaborate with the quality manager to implement quality enhancements.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders to meet project deadlines.
  • Utilize NPI processes appropriately to achieve design milestones.
  • Assist in managing Product Engineering projects using tools such as Gantt charts and Project Status, focusing on established KPIs.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, including leading PFMEA processes and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Support the technical aspects of the RMA process when necessary.
  • Ensure timely classification and distribution of assigned Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Provide ongoing support for production where product knowledge is essential.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • Degree in Engineering (Optics, Electronics, Mechanical, Software) or a related scientific field, or equivalent experience. Experience in photonics is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in an engineering or manufacturing environment, with a focus on photonics or fibre optics being advantageous.
  • Proficient in technical design, process development, and project management.
  • Strong internal presentation skills.
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting is essential.
  • Familiarity with Project Management methodologies and tools, with the ability to implement them in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations sufficient to conduct and manage risk assessments.
