Cornwall, United Kingdom Cornwall Council Full time

**About the role**

We have a new and exciting opportunity for a passionate, committed individual to join a team of specialist support workers responding to children and young people experiencing mental health crisis and family breakdown.

This team is part of a new integrated approach to responding to the needs of children in crisis through enhanced multidisciplinary working between mental health and social care services. This innovative new service aims to deliver support which is tailored and responsive to the needs of families. This new approach to care aims to minimise the need for hospital admission or social care placements by working in a multi-disciplinary way to strengthen the network around the child and to develop sustainable holistic plans which empower families and young people to safely stay together and thrive.

Using evidence-based interventions, the team will provide flexible support to reduce the risk of family and placement breakdown. Children and young people will be supported at home and in their community to develop a positive self-view and emotional resilience through one-to-one interventions. Families and carers will develop confidence and resilience by learning skills and strategies to deescalate and safely care for children in their own environment leading to improved outcomes.

With comprehensive training and ongoing professional development opportunities, Positive Support Workers will work closely with the professional network around children and their families and will demonstrate a child centred, trauma informed approach to the work.

In order to provide this wraparound care and meet the specific needs of the children, there may be a need to work outside of normal office hours, at weekends and overnight. This is not envisaged as being a regular occurrence and would be organised in agreement with you. An additional payment will be applicable.

Whilst the location/work-base for this role may have been specified our evolving ways of working means that the role may require you to also work remotely (e.g., from home/other locations). We will discuss this with you during the recruitment process.

We are happy to talk about flexible working options such as part-time or compressed hours. More examples of our flexible working opportunities can be found here - flexible working options.

For any queries about this role, please contact Kate Wilson on 07483 340 825

Fairness and inclusion are at the heart of our vision for Cornwall. In order to best serve our communities, we are striving to achieve a diverse workforce that is inclusive of all backgrounds, cultures and identities; e.g., race, disability, sex, gender, age, religion and sexual orientation. We are an equal opportunities and Disability Confident employer, and we will assess applicants on their merits.

Cornwall Council is committed to safeguarding and following safer recruitment principles to help make sure our staff and volunteers are suitable to work with children, young people and adults at risk. It’s a vital part of creating a safe and positive environment and making a commitment to keeping all service users safe from harm.
