Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Head of Estates at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to join our busy Estates &
Facilities Management Team.

They will be responsible for the provision of a highly developed specialist service, technical and administrative advice and to support to the Head
of Estates (Operations), and to also liaise with all estates personnel within the maintenance function of the Directorate.

including providing cross-cover across all Trust operated properties during times of absence.

Main duties of the job

To provide high quality, efficient maintenance services, which are responsive to user demands.

To ensure the safe and effective management of the Trusts buildings and plant (and associated equipment), using a mixed economy of direct and
contracted-out services.

To set and achieve targets for maintenance and improvement in estate stock, such that staff, patients and visitors are able to use a physical
environment that is safe, comfortable and equitably accessible.

In conjunction with the site counterpart Assistant Head of Estates, to lead on building and engineering policy and strategic development for Trust,
interpretation of legislation.

To support the Head of Estates in the implementation of the Trust’s organisational development agenda.

To work in cohesion with the site counterpart Assistant Head of Estates.

To use specialist knowledge to develop maintenance policies and procedures and to ensure systems are in place for the adequate monitoring and implementation and review of such policies / procedures.

To manage the maintenance budget, meeting financial targets and maximising income generation. To be accountable for all expenditure within
delegated limits and deliver cost improvements set by the Trust.

- NAHave a degree in an estate, engineering, building, building surveying, architecture or other property related discipline or equivalent experience.
- Specialist knowledge acquired through a post graduate course and experience to masters equivalent level.
- Achieved or working towards membership of an appropriate professional institute/body.
- Sustained record of continued professional development.

Desirable criteria
- Post Graduate Management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
- Previous experience in an environment with complex building and engineering services installations.
- Working knowledge of NHS Best Practice as set down in Health Technical Memoranda and other similar documents
- Specialist knowledge of hospital building and engineering services eg., Legionella, Pressure Systems, Piped Medical Gases, High and Low Voltage Electrics, Steam/Water Systems, Lifts, Pneumatic Tube Systems
- Excellent knowledge of health and safety and building/engineering services legislation and associated Codes of Practice.

Desirable criteria
- Previous experience in a policy making position as an Engineering Leader.
