Mechanics of Materials Experimental Officer

**About the role**:
We are looking for an Experimental Officer to join our School of Engineering in supporting research activities that are carried out across the Mechanics of Materials (MoM) and Advanced Microscopy Facility (AMF) laboratories. This will involve providing high level experimental and research assistance to undergraduate (UG), taught post-graduate (PGT) and post-graduate research (PGR) students, post-doctoral researchers (PDRA), and academic staff. You will also ensure the laboratory equipment is maintained to a high standard, meeting health and safety requirements, as well as providing training and specialist advice for users.

You will support service users of the laboratories with a broad range of analytical and characterisation equipment and techniques, including (but not limited to):

- Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy with EDS and EBSD (including appropriate sample preparation)
- Optical Microscopy
- Differential Scanning Calorimetry
- Power X-Ray Diffractometry
- Micro Computed Tomography (CT)
- Static and dynamic load frames (tensile, compression, fatigue, creep, and shear testing)
- Heat treatment (hot oven furnaces)
- Hardness testing (Vickers, Rockwell, Knoop and nano-indentation)
- Tribology (wear testing)
