Job Summary
- The family liaison officer will be responsible for day-to-day work across the

adult inpatient wards to ensure to voice of carers/families are heard
- You will need to be confident, engaging, and compassionate, able to extend

warm and welcoming invitations to parents and families of patients admitted to
your designated areas
- This role will support the delivery of the Trust’s quality and clinical objectives,

which include patient safety and experience, quality improvement and quality
assurance and patient engagement.
- This is a new post therefore although having clear parameters and

expectations there will be opportunities to positively shape and influence the
role and develop important relationships with stakeholders and partners. You
will work alongside clinical teams in the unit to support them to build pathways
and opportunities to ensure carers/families are treated as partners

Support a collaborative culture that brings together clinical team,
commissioners and families/carers to focus on improving outcomes for
inpatients
- Develop good working relationships with the clinical and support team for both

adult wards
- Further enable the wards to understand the role families and carers can play

as part of the care team the benefits this brings
- Gain a good working knowledge on the wards policies and procedures which

will enable the liaison worker to outline what to expect at each stage of the
admission process.
- Provide learning and development opportunities for staff to help them engage,

understand and emphasise with families/carers through a shared vision of
understanding trauma, recognising family/carer needs and active listening

To provide contact to carers/family where possible within the first week of
admission
- Ensure families and carers are given and appropriate notification of meetings

and are enabled (in line with appropriate consent) to attend or give
representation at those meetings
- Offer support to the clinical team when relationships family and carers may

enquire additional support or input and are enables (in line with appropriate
consPlanning and organisation

The post holder will be required to comply with the organisations standing
order and standing financial instructions and at all times, deal honestly with
the organisation with colleagues and all those who have dealing with the
organisation including patients, relative and suppliers.
- The post holder must ensure that their behaviour and interests inside and

outside work do not conflict with their Trust position, duties and/or
responsibilities.
- The post holder must comply with and support the development of the

performance standards within the service/department to ensure the service is responsive to and meets the needs of its customers.
- The post holder will be required to develop and maintain good working

relationships with all patients, service users, staff, contractors and where
appropriate, members of the public.
- The Trust aims to maintain the good will and confidence of its own staff,

patients, service users, NHS contractors and the general public. To assist in
achieving this objective it is essential that at all times, the post holder carries out their duties in a courteous, sympathetic and professional manner.
- All post holders who are members of a professional body must comply with standards of professional practice / conduct. It is the post holders’

responsibilities to ensure they are both familiar with and adhere to these
requirements and maintain their professional membership to the relevant
body.
