**Post Title**: Library & Informatics Assistant/ RA agent Pay Band: 3 Hours: 22.5 hours per week(Monday, Tuesday, Friday) Location / Department: Rowlands Library, CHEC Accountable to: Resources Librarian (Wrh) Reports to: Senior Library & Informatics Assistant Key Working Relationships: Internal: Library and knowledge management staff teams in Worcestershire and Herefordshire; IT, Health Informatics Managers and staff involved in specific projects; Managers of NHS Trusts and Social Care in Worcestershire; Clinical Tutors, Professional Development staff, Education and Training leads, and Clinical Governance staff; NHS staff and others designated as library users. External: Higher and further education providers, and research and development staff, including Health Education England (West Midlands); West Midlands region health library staff, co-operative lending schemes, British Library document delivery services staff; Providers of knowledge resources and systems and suppliers (e.g. electronic systems suppliers, library suppliers, NHS Evidence) Risk Assessment: Lifting and moving stock (books, journal boxes, boxes of photocopy paper) and equipment, weighing between 6-20 kilos. Pushing book trolleys; Requirement to use a computer for long periods each day; Occasional lone working.

**Job Purpose**: Assists in the provision of a multidisciplinary library and knowledge service for NHS and social care staff in Worcestershire. In particular for this post: Carry out library procedures and routines to ensure the efficient delivery of services at Worcester as a member of the WHL Customer Care Team. Provide administrative support to the Library & Knowledge Services Team. To act as a Registration Authority Agent for Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust The post-holder will: Issue smart cards to employees of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust as authorised by the Registration Authority Manager.

how to register with the library, to more complex enquiries eg. how to find information in clinical databases. The post-holder refers detailed enquiries (eg. literature searches) to professionally qualified library staff.

Enquiries are dealt with on a daily basis and regularly interrupt essential daily routines requiring the post-holder to reorganise workload at short notice to ensure these tasks are completed. Assisting library users in the use of traditional (books and paper copies of journals) and electronic information resources, including a ten minute induction to individual new users on registration. Provides advice and instruction for logging onto PCs, clinical databases (eg. Medline, Cinahl, Cochrane Library) and use of MS Office software and e-learning packages.

This involves assessing the computer skills of users and aiming training at their level, referring to a librarian for specialised training where the need is identified. Providing training to new users in the management of their online library accounts i.e. searching the WHL online library catalogue, making online book reservations, renewing books online. Providing library users with first line IT support and inform the IT Helpdesk of any problems with IT equipment and software to ensure minimum disruption to library users.

Performs virus checks on computers in the library clearing temporary internet files. Performs routine maintenance tasks on computers, photocopiers and printers. Operating the photocopier/scanner and other electrical, electronic or manual office equipment and assisting users. Following copyright and data protection legislation and information governance guidelines, and advising users as appropriate.

Also provides photocopied or scanned journal articles on request to other libraries within the WM regional scheme. Maintaining stocks of paper and other stationery items, informing the Senior Library & Informatics Assistant when orders for replacements need to be raised. Typing documentation as required, including publicity materials, labels and correspondence to maintain and improve the appearance and running of the library.

Creating invoices for overdue items and inter-library loans charges, handling cash on a daily basis from library fines and document delivery charges, recording money received and depositing at regular intervals at the Cashiers Office, according to Finance Department policy. Support the cross-county Knowledge Management Team by: Providing administrative support by booking rooms for meetings and workshops, recording performance statistics, taking minutes, typing minutes and other documentation and producing publicity material as required. Also assists with the maintenance of the electronic resources statistics spreadsheet; Attending regular site and Customer Care Team and WHL team meetings either in person
