Strategic Adviser (board level)

**About the job**
- Collingwood Advisory_ helps media and information entrepreneurs to scale up and create value in their businesses. We are looking for an Adviser to take the lead on strategic engagements with our expanding client base of high-growth independent media businesses.

**Package**
- £ negotiable and according to experience
- Part / full time, 3-5 days per week

**The role**

Every Collingwood engagement is led by a Strategic Adviser, whose role is to work with owners, CEOs and the Board, on strategy and value creation.

**Experience**

You will:

- Have held CEO or MD roles, managing £10m+ P&L, or
- Be a successful entrepreneur who has scaled a media business to exit, and,
- Have deep knowledge of one or more of; events, marketing services, memberships, or subscription-based business models
- Be ambitious, client-focused, commercially strong and highly persuasive

**Key responsibilities include**:
1. Client Delivery
- Give consistent advice on company strategy and value creation, helping the CEO and owners to prioritise between the long term vision for the business, its 3 year plan and its current trading vs budget.
- Embed good governance
- Mentor the CEO (and/or Co-Founders) in evolving their own roles as leaders and P&L owners

2. Business Development
- Collaborate with Collingwood’s Business Development and Marketing teams to build and continuously replenish a growing portfolio of clients
- Actively build your network in the Media sector and proactively seek opportunities to grow accounts

3. Thought Leadership & IP Development
- Consistently build knowledge about matters relevant to scaling a business in the media industry
- Take an active role in the entrepreneurial community, contributing to discussions in the Media Entrepreneur Meetup and other relevant networks
- Input into and continuously improve Collingwood’s IP and programme delivery

**Skills and attributes**
- Mature, confident: able to work with complex group dynamics and get clients to change
- Humility, empathy, listening skills: understanding the client’s DNA and making best practice work within their culture
- Integrated skill set: able to build a plan around words and numbers
- Ability to brief on, develop, edit and critique strategic plans
- Rational, tested approach to forecasting, ability to set up assumptions and adapt budgeting and forecasting templates
- Ability to help clients set up relevant KPI Reports and identify North Star measurements
- Ability to form and test hypotheses about potential changes
- Ability to identify unforeseen challenges and help clients to adapt
- Team worker who shares potential problems with colleagues to find better solution
- Highly organised, proactive communicator
