Overview:
The Associate Director of Data Science is responsible for developing a data science competency throughout the organization with an initial focus on building outputs that support our growing library product space. This individual will work closely with editorial and marketing teams to solve complex challenges and drive business growth by developing algorithms, building automated data tools, and providing data-driven recommendations. This position will be responsible for directing the overall strategy of Data Science at SAGE, making strategic investment recommendations to executive level partners, leading internal and external resources, have a robust understanding of the data science domain, and be at the forefront of managing AI ethics.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

- Establish and manage a data science competency at SAGE to support future growth by leading, managing, and mentoring internal and external data science resources.
- Work with SAGE Leadership; providing expertise and architectural direction to guide key data science initiatives.
- Leads multiple projects and participates in development, validation, and delivery of algorithms and tools.
- Establish and maintain a framework for the full development cycle of machine learning models and data-driven tools that drive commercial impact in business areas like marketing, pricing, demand forecasting, and search engine optimization.
- Be accountable for ensuring aligned resources, roadmap priorities, interdependencies, and investment across other technology departments.
- Develop and continually review and adapt the Data Science vision, desired future state, and Data Science strategy to provide direction for the business.
- Leads development of documentation and processes to better standardize the Data Science function within SAGE to continually improve project delivery.
- Provide framework for governing AI solutions including effective management of AI ethics.
- Designs optimal technology stack used to support advanced analytics capabilities throughout enterprise.
- Leads long-term data science strategy in collaboration with business leaders Influence strategic goals ensuring SAGE Technology is addressing complex Data Science challenges.
- Drive consensus, negotiate, and influence key decisions that drive significant change and

transformation. Qualifications & Education:

- Significant previous experience building data science teams at enterprise scale required.
- Expertise distilling stakeholder requirements into problem definitions and delivering

solutions that maximize value to the organization.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with technical and

non-technical stakeholders.
- Demonstratable experience developing and designing best practices for leading highfunctioning

data science teams.
- Experience in leading and developing teams focused on building statistical modelling,

experimental set-up, data analysis, predictive model development, deployment.
- Ability to develop relationships and positively influence key, strategic position holders across

locations and functions.
- Broad, deep technical knowledge and experience within data science domain.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills and good attention to detail.
- Significant experience of planning, organizing, and leading major projects.
- Demonstratable experience of making independent, strategically aligned decisions in
