**About the role**

DS Smith has ambitions to grow both organically and through acquisitions, and we are looking for a Senior Construction Portfolio Manager to support us with those ambitions. The business has a wide range of properties globally that include recycling centres,paper mills, manufacturing plants that make boxes, distribution facilities and offices. As the business continues to grow, our estate needs to evolve, modernise and expand to meet the ever-changing needs of our customers.

It is anticipated that the business will be executing over 100 projects across the UK, Europe and the USA over the next three years, with scopes ranging from existing facility extensions (to facilitate extra capacity), through to major greenfield projects,some with values in excess of £100m.

The role of the Senior Construction Portfolio Manager at DS Smith sits in the Group Property business function, reporting to the Group Head of Construction. This role will be based at the Group's headquarters in London, with regular domestic and internationaltravel to key project sites expected.

In this role you will be responsible for:

- Supporting the identification and prioritisation of group construction projects;
- Working with the business and the Group Head of Construction, provide oversight of group construction projects, ensuring appropriate reporting, and escalation and management of key risks and issues;
- Developing programme-level reporting with appropriate escalation mechanisms to address variations from scope, cost and programme, as well as programme level risks and issues;
- Working with local project teams to advise on the construction element of the project business case, to include delivery strategy and planning, aligned with Group objectives and risk appetite;
- Coordinating with Group procurement to ensure that projects have the appropriate resource aligned to the project delivery strategy and plan;
- Working with DS Smith procurement and legal teams, advising on delivery strategies and contract structures that deliver the optimal balance of risk between parties;
- Increasing the maturity of Project Delivery at DS Smith, for example through improved standardisation, increased use of supplier frameworks, introduction and management of supplier performance management, delivering a format around post-investment reviews;
- Supporting the development and implementation of new Capital Project governance and controls across the Group; and
- Collaborating with the business to ensure that appropriate strategies are successfully implemented to drive category outcomes.

**About you**
- Detailed first hand knowledge of major facility construction projects
- Experience working for (or consulting to) a FTSE100 or equivalent sized multinational organisation
- Extensive knowledge of general contracting processes, rules and procedures
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, selection and uses of various types of design, construction and rehabilitation contracts
- Knowledge of design and construction management techniques
- Ability to work with contractors and state/local agencies
- Ability to concurrently manage and coordinate multiple projects and programmes
- Knowledge of leading practice project controls (including budget/estimate/cost, programme, scope, authorisation and approval)
- Professional construction and engineering, commercial, project management and/or procurement qualifications
- Good communication skills
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
