Assistant Blood Transfusion Practitioner

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic registered nurse, midwife, operating department practitioner or biomedical scientist to join the Trust's blood transfusion team at an exciting time for a 6 month fixed term period, as the team implement a Trust-wide electronic blood tracking solution alongside work to deliver a new electronic health record (EPIC).
You will be joining a dynamic and expert transfusion team comprising Transfusion Consultants, Senior Blood Transfusion Practitioners, Transfusion Laboratory Operations Manager, Transfusion Quality Manager, Haematology Matron and experienced administrators.
You will be a flexible confident person who can demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will be expected to liaise with all levels of staff involved in the transfusion process. The ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team is essential.
The post is initially for a 6 month fixed term period to support the implementation of the digital blood tracking solution, but may be extending depending on future scope.

You will be responsible for delivering education and training to all levels of staff on the digital blood tracking solution and assist the blood transfusion practitioner team with any administrative tasks related to the new projects.

The post holder is a registered nurse, midwife, operation department practitioner or biomedical scientist who, as a member of the Clinical Transfusion Team is responsible for assisting with the provision of a clinical transfusion service across the Trust, and for ensuring the delivery of high quality care to a large cohort of patients so that that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
The post holder will contribute to the provision of training for nursing, medical and multi-disciplinary staff in the management of patients receiving blood transfusion, and in ensuring that agreed guidelines and protocols are followed satisfactorily.
The Assistant Blood Transfusion Practitioner role involves acting as a resource, providing advice and support for all staff across the Trust, and visiting clinical areas and liaising with staff in an advisory and teaching capacity. The role also includes facilitating the implementation of changes in practice, undertaking audit/research in the field of blood transfusion and its alternatives and reviewing and updating Trust protocols and policies.
