JOB PURPOSE
- Undertake non-invasive cardiac investigations with the Diagnostic Cardiology Unit
- Provide support to junior Healthcare Science Practitioners, Healthcare Science support workers, students and other junior member of the team
- To undertake training in echocardiographer to BSE standards

This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term contract basis for a period of 18 months due to the post being externally funded. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts taking into consideration the ongoing source of the external funding and the requirement for the post to be maintained.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties
- Undertake the echocardiography training programme and work towards completion of the British Society of Echocardiography accreditation
- The post holder will follow a structured training plan to meet both with clearly defined targets, expectations and regular assessments in order to complete British Society of Accreditation.
- The post holder will be involved in performing echocardiograms which requires intimate contact with patients.
- To undertake non-invasive investigations and procedures

Communication
- Be able to communication through a variety of media to patient colleague and the wider public
- Convey complex explanation of testing procedures to patient and colleague.
- Communication effectively with individual who may have difficulty understanding.
- Be involved with teaching and training within own work activity in the department and satellite hospitals.

Analytical and judgmental
- Provide complex analysis and interpretation of patients diagnostic test results.
- Assimilate multiple factors that affect the interpretation and outcome of an investigation.
- To correlate data and make decisions based on own interpretation and information within appropriate professional and clinical guidelines.
- To be able to exercise initiative as an autonomous practitioner in Non-invasive areas of the Cardiology Department. The individual uses their discretion to re-adjust plans as the clinical situation / need of the patient changes.

Planning and organisational
- Demonstrates the ability to prioritise the clinical caseload within a designated area of Cardiology.
- Including planning and organisation of expected and acute workload.
- Undertake task as per departmental rota
- Plan own workload within the confines of designated tasks.

Patient Care
- Reassurance to patients who are anxious about their clinical findings.
- Immediate Life Support training including manual Defibrillation is essential during procedures performed on acutely ill patients and those at very high risk of sudden cardiac death.
- Commitment to high quality patient care.
- Commitment to providing patient focused care.

Service Development
- The post holder will work in such a way that contributes towards the achievements of the Cardiology Directorate and STH challenges.
