The successful applicant will ideally have previous experience of working at a senior operational level within the hospitality industry in Independent Schools and will be keen to work as part of our exceptional leadership team.

The Senior School has 10 boarding houses, which are serviced by 9 kitchens; 2 of the boarding houses are linked and share a kitchen, and the Prep School located 3 miles away operates with one kitchen and central dining for a School community of 400 plus staff. Additional kitchens around the site are responsible for the provision of hospitality, sport teas and functions.

Working for and closely with the Head of Domestic Services, the **Head of Catering** will line manage the chef managers. The role will require strong engagement with the House Masters / Mistresses, Matrons, Prep SMT, the Pastoral Teams and the Heads of Sport in order to ensure the highest level of provision and quality of food across all outlets.

The role will have responsibilities during the school holiday periods, when the School’s Enterprise department lets the facilities for additional income. During these periods, the **Head of Catering** will organise and arrange the necessary catering support, assisting the Lettings and Events Manager and the Enterprise team as necessary.

- The ability to build strong, professional relationships with internal and external individuals, service providers, suppliers, and businesses.
- Strong motivation skills with a ‘lead by example’ approach
- Outstanding financial management skills - commercial and fixed price
- HR best practice and retail skills
- The ability to drive in the UK essential.
- The right to work permanently in the UK.
- Able to undertake an enhanced DBS and provide references covering full 5 years and overseas police checks
- Have proven experience in the area of compliance.
- Excellent listening, written and verbal communication skills (in English) and able to articulate and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Knowledge of office management systems
- Outstanding organisational, analytical and time management skills and ability to create effective processes and procedures. A team player, but able to work autonomously and remotely.
- Experience of working in a multi-site capacity is an advantage.

**Key areas of responsibility**:

- To ensure the delivery of healthy, well balanced and enjoyable meals, at breakfast, lunch and tea
- To provide hospitality in the form of functions and sport/match teas
- To achieve best value without compromising quality
- To be responsible for the performance of whole school catering provision
- To ensure the cost effectiveness of the catering service, actual to budget
- To ensure the attractiveness to users of the catering provision and facilities; and to maintain the highest standards for all aspects of health, hygiene and safety throughout all catering areas, including the kitchens and ancillary store areas.
- To motivate, manage and deploy catering staff to ensure the efficient organisation of the catering service
- To line manage and lead a broad catering team, embedding a culture of continuous improvement, meeting the needs of the various stakeholders and working closely with the Head of Domestic Services and HR as necessary.
- To oversee the preparation, cooking and service arrangements, ensuring the staff possess the necessary skills to deliver the required standards, and as appropriate, to identify and conduct and implement training
- Responsibility for the recruitment of Chefs, Relief Chefs and Kitchen Assistants for the Houses, in accordance with the Staff Recruitment Policy
- To be responsible for the accurate cost control of catering expenditure and the security of all school assets, including sensible use of the school’s utilities
- To complete weekly/monthly financial reports for submission to the Head of Domestic Services, to enable accurate identification of the total and per capita cost of consumption, non-food expenditure, labour and hospitality
- To ensure sufficient allocation of equipment, cleaning material, stationery and uniform
- To ensure maintenance agreements for all equipment are current and arrange renewal if required, in conjunction with the Head of Domestic Services
- In conjunction with the chefs, Matrons and House Masters / Mistresses at the Senior School plan three weekly menu cycles, making provision as appropriate for special food diets.
