Bristol Zoological Society, the conservation and education charity that runs and operates Bristol Zoo Project (previously Wild Place Project), higher education programmes and conservation projects across the world, is recruiting a Lecturer/Conservation Project Manager (Madagascar Conservation Programme).This is an exciting opportunity to join the Field Conservation & Science team.
Main Responsibilities include:
- Higher Education Teaching and Supervision: the successful applicant will lead modules (undergraduate and/or Masters level) and supervise and mark research projects at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
- Co-manage a multi-disciplinary conservation project within the Bristol Zoological Society’s northern Madagascar Conservation Programme.
We are particularly interested in applicants with demonstrable experience in applied conservation measures and stakeholder engagement, rather than strictly fundamental research. If you have experience in these areas, we would be very interested in hearing from you.
Your role will be crucial in helping us achieve our mission of saving wildlife together and delivering excellent Higher Education programmes. Our northern Madagascar Conservation Programme is focused in Sahamalaza-Iles Radama National Park. We are establishing a community engagement project to provide insights into the anthropogenic pressures on regional biological diversity (e.g. our flagship species, the blue-eyed black lemur) and habitat loss, and to understand how best to support people to increase sustainability of livelihoods and reduce land conversion to ensure biodiversity benefits in the long term. In collaboration with the Madagascar Conservation Programme Manager, you will be actively involved in these designing and delivering on these measures with local partners.
