Research Assistant

Applications are invited for a Research Assistant to join the CureME Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) research team in the Clinical Research Department in the Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases** **at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The position is budgeted at 100% for the first three years of the project; this appointment will be offered until the end of August 2023 initially and expected to be renewed annually.
The post holder will assist the ME/CFS Biobank Lead in all procedures related to contacting and recruiting participants. They will be responsible for i) organising the packs for blood collection and equipment for clinical assessment, ii) preparing the saliva kits with full instructions and mailing them to participants, iii) receiving the saliva samples, logging them, and transferring to labs.
The post holder will also support the clinical research team by performing literature review and assisting with data cleaning, assisting with statistical analysis of complex datasets, publication, and report preparation, along with other dissemination activities, including online communication with patient groups.
The role would suit a committed career researcher, with an existing interest in clinical and/or epidemiological research. The successful applicant will have an MSc or equivalent higher degree in Med stats/Epidemiology, or demonstrable equivalent research experience, evidence of good organisational skills, including effective time management and ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively, as part of a research team, excellent communication and organisational skills, and will be able to produce high-quality work with attention to detail on tight deadlines. They will need to be able to work both independently and as part of a team and to demonstrate initiative when faced with challenges. Further particulars are included in the job description.
