This is a unique opportunity to combine working as a core/community midwife with a specialism Bereavement.

You will be working with an experienced specialist bereavement midwife who will help you to advance your knowledge and improve your skills while preparing you for your next career move.

We currently have opportunities for experienced band 6 midwives to join the core/community midwifery teams and spend 2 days per rota (if you are working 37 ½ hours/week) with the Maternity Safeguarding team.

You will be working with a specialist bereavement midwife that works clinically as well as strategically in all areas related to bereavement. You will be part of a team that works to enable good care for mothers/birthing people that are bereaved.

**You will learn how to**:

- Become a clinical specialist providing verbal and written information to bereaved families.
- Carry out audits and research and share the findings and support practice changes to improve care
- Contribute to the writing of policies and guidelines
- Support and advise staff in clinical areas when caring for bereaved parents

As well as carrying out your clinical hours where you will be fully competent in your own abilities to provide good evidence-based care in the area you choose, you will also be able to continue your professional development whilst working 2 days per rota in your specialist role.

Whilst in your speciality role, you will participate in and learn around the safeguarding processes for maternity services. This will involve:

- Gaining an in-depth knowledge of child protection and advanced analytical skills for safeguarding
- Assisting Trust Named Midwife to provide advice and support to staff in complex cases.
- Working as part of a dynamic multi-agency team assessing notifications and referrals regarding vulnerable women/birthing people and babies that are received by Multi
- Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH).
- Learning the MASH Process
- Whilst working within the Maternity Safeguarding team you will collaborate with the Trust’s Safeguarding teams to assist in delivering safeguarding training in line with Intercollegiate Guidance (2014)
- Learn how to assess notifications and referrals received regarding vulnerable women/birthing people and babies in maternity.
- You will facilitate close working relations between the multidisciplinary team and outside agents, ensuring women/birthing people and their families are aware and can access all services.
- Participate in audit to provide assurance that actions from serious case reviews, safeguarding practice reviews and SIs have been effective.

We have considerable expertise at caring for women/birthing people with complex and high risk needs and our specialist midwives consistently provide the highest standard of multi agency care. Our Day Assessment Units have a reputation within the community of delivering high quality, evidence based care. These services have been developed over the years and are led by a team with a passion for facilitating care to women/birthing people who require additional care during their pregnancies. Our midwives are actively involved in the specialist clinics including Mental Health, Haemoglobinopathy, HIV, VBAC, Diabetes and Alcohol &Substance Misuse.
