**Job Purpose**:
The role of the Lead Designer is to lead the design function of the business in the planning, delivery and organising of resource, processes, and procedures whilst maintaining a hands-on approach to design project work.

The Lead Designer will lead a team of designers and will be responsible for working with the other lead roles to ensure the smooth running of the department. The role involves the line management of the designers, providing them with guidance, mentoring and development daily. Due to the workload and size of the team, the expectation is also to lead project work when necessary.

**Job functions include**:

- Leading a team of Designers, providing support, experience, and guidance.
- Project planning and monitoring using departmental KPI systems.
- Interfacing with other departments, supporting key meetings.
- Support to the creative design process for all products.
- Responsibility for the generation and updating of Design Guidelines.
- Development of project management systems and improvements.
- Responsibility for ensuring certificate logs and data sheets are managed.
- Organisation of all office-based samples and effective logging of master samples.
- Support for chasing external requests through suppliers or internal departments.
- Responsible for Health & Safety matters relating to the Design Team.
- Tracking and identifying departmental software and hardware upgrades and renewals.
- Responsibility for intranet CAD asset filing and organisation. Monitoring server space and archiving practices.
- Responsibility for all stationery and office-based purchases.
- Responsibility for office maintenance and ensuring the team follow a safe, tidy environment policy.
- Participate with the project teams and weekly meetings as appropriate.
- Support to the Head of Design and Chief Design Officer when required.

**Job Context / Key Challenges**:
With the current company strategy to embrace hybrid and homeworking, the Design Operations Manager needs to be supporting the homeworking teams with onsite related information. On that basis, the ability to be on site regularly is a prerequisite.

**Knowledge and Experience**:
**Essential skills/qualifications required include**:

- Interior Design, Product Design or Transport Design qualifications to Degree level.
- Business Studies or equivalent management qualifications.
- Good Excel skills and experience. Ability to construct complex databases with analytical tools.
- 3DS Max and/or Alias CAD modelling and rendering experience.
- Good Adobe Photoshop skills.
- Understanding of Soft Furnishings and material specs/material performance testing.
- Relevant manufacturing experience.
- Understanding of moulding technologies such as vacuum forming, injection, and compression moulding.
- Understanding of furniture-based materials and manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of graphics design process.
- Strong time management skills.
- Reliable, focused and detail orientated.
- Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a fast-paced environment.

**Desirable skills required include**:

- Microsoft Project planning experience.
- Colour management of digital and print media. Swift currently use GMG colour proofing.
- People management experience.
- Studio environment experience.
