JOB TITLE: Kitchen Assistant 3 days per week 7am - 7.30pm
REPORTING TO**:Catering Manager **/ **Chef on Duty
RESPONSIBLE TO: The Home Manager
**Job Purpose**:
The Kitchen Assistant supports all catering within the Nursing home and, alongside the other catering staff ensures that all kitchen services are efficient and that the required Health & Safety measures are adhered to within the department. The Kitchen Assistant assists with all the working areas within the homes kitchen. Responsibilities are not limited to, food preparation, washing dishes and cleaning the kitchen area.

**Required**:
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to carry out instruction accurately
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
- Team player
- Basic knowledge of Infection Control
- A knowledge of Health & Safety
- Satisfactory DBS checks
**Desirable**:
- Experience in dealing with elderly & frail in the care sector
- Covid Vaccinations
- Food Hygiene Certificate
**The key responsibilities of our Kitchen Assistant include**:
- Carry out all cleaning duties in the kitchen area in accordance with the work schedule including:
- Preparation of food including vegetables, salads, omelettes and sandwiches.
- General cleanliness and tidiness of the kitchen area, equipment and appliances.
- Receiving, checking and safely storing kitchen deliveries.
- Understand the principles of safe food handling, to ensure all food preparations undertaken in the kitchen is to the highest standards of hygiene.
- Understand the cleaning requirements of different surfaces and equipment and the properties of cleaning materials, to ensure the areas are well presented and maintained in good condition.
- Report on the supply and quality of items used to carry out tasks, ensuring the timely and appropriate ordering of replacement goods.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with all residents, family, visitors and colleagues.
**Employee Reviews**:
- Complete supervisions with your line manager bi-monthly and an annual appraisal.
**Training and Development**:
- Maintain professional knowledge and competence.
- Attend scheduled meetings and training
- Complete mandatory training and attend specific training days/courses, on or off site, as and when required.
**Health & Safety**:
- Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.
- Understand, and ensure the implementation of, Hill House Nursing Homes Ltd’s Health & Safety policy, Emergency and Fire procedures.
- Report to the Home Manager, or the Handyperson, any faulty appliances, damaged furniture, equipment or any potential hazard and write it in the maintenance log on reception.
- Promote safe working practice within Hill House Nursing Homes Ltd.
**Data Protection**:
- The post holder must at all times respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of GDPR ensuring it is not divulged to third parties.
**General**:
- Notify the Home Manager, or the Person in Charge, as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty, and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
- Ensure the security of Hill House Nursing Homes Ltd is maintained at all times.
- Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
- Ensure all equipment is clean and well maintained.
- Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
- Promote and ensure the good reputation on the Company at all times.
