**About us**:
Dementia is the biggest health challenge of our century - currently affecting fifty million people worldwide, projected to triple by 2050, with huge financial, emotional and social impact on patients, their carers, families and friends. To date there is no way to prevent or even slow the rate of progression of dementia - this is because there is still a major knowledge gap in our basic understanding of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

The UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) is the biggest UK initiative supporting research to fill this gap.

The UK DRI currently has seven research Centres, 60 Group Leaders and over 800 researchers focusing on different aspects of dementia and developing new technologies and approaches for research, diagnosis, treatment, and care.

The UK DRI HQ team is based at UCL yet works across all six UK DRI host institutions. Collectively the HQ team is responsible for making the distributed UK DRI community function as a single institute, with a shared culture of intensely collaborative research, common policies on hiring, communications, capital investments, finances and other operational challenges, a single tech transfer programme, and shared external collaborations.

**About the role**:
The UK DRI has implemented multiple innovative technology platforms for use by researchers at the Institute, providing access to cutting-edge technologies and tools that typically have limited availability to researchers working in higher education environments. This includes platforms delivering and working with animal models, fluid biomarkers, mass-spec based proteomics, and single cell/spatial transcriptomics, and the implementation of critical tools such as iPS cells, affinity reagents, and viral vectors.

This is a newly created role and so it is available immediately and funded by the UK DRI for three years in the first instance.

This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 40% on site.

A full job description and person specification for this role can be accessed below.

**About you**:
You’ll have a degree in neuroscience or a related area, a broad familiarity with dementia research and relevant tools and technologies, and practical experience in a technology with direct relevance to neurodegenerative research. Good interpersonal and relationship-building skills are essential, as is the ability to problem-solve and use your initiative, experience of scientific writing, and strong time management skills.

**What we offer**:
As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits, some of which are below:

- 41 Days holiday (27 days annual leave 8 bank holiday and 6 closure days)
- Additional 5 days’ annual leave purchase scheme
- Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE)
- Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
- Immigration loan
- Relocation scheme for certain posts
- On-site nursery
- On-site gym
- Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
- Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service
- Discounted medical insurance

**Our commitment to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion**:
Dementia affects everyone. The team that tackles it needs to reflect that.

Collaboration and connection are at the heart of how we take on the challenge of making breakthroughs in dementia research. A national institute with an international staff, our scientists and support staff are united in working to bring new therapies and new hope to people with dementia.

Prioritising inclusivity isn’t just the right thing to do - diversity of experience, perspectives and backgrounds increases innovation in science. Our efforts to increase the diversity of our team, ensure inclusion and promote equality of opportunity, align with our vision for the UK DRI’s Institute culture and identity as a world-leader in dementia research.
