**Job Outline - Prestwick**
**Male Personal Assistant / Support worker**
- _8__hrs per week in Prestwick Area
**Post and days**
P/T 1 to 2 days per week, can be flexible, to be discussed at interview. May suit a student.
**Salary**
Living wage rate - £10.02 per hour, paid 4 weekly in arrears, 5.6 weeks A/L per annum
**Job Purpose**
To work closely and flexibly with a Young Man in his early 30s who has a Learning difficulty to ensure he is appropriately supported to participate in a full range of opportunities in his life and to continue to develop and follow his hobbies and interests.
**Employer**
You will be employed by the family, who will be assisted to administer payroll and undertake the necessary employment support responsibilities by a relevant support organisation.
**Personalise as required**
You will be responsible for supporting the gentleman to engage in all aspects of community life and activities as directed by him and his family.
Being flexible is a key component to this job and you will be guided by the gentleman and his family about the particular activities he wants to participate in at particular times and you are expected to support his choices.
You may be required to work in the evening on occasions and at the weekends to support his interest:
Football. This will usually be planned in advance
Music / Concerts / Comedy shows/ attending the Gym
Being a driver with own vehicle is preferred, but not essential as public transport can be used.
Walking the dog and getting outdoors are activities he enjoys with support.
You may at times be required to provide companionship in his own home.

Demonstrate experience of supporting people to fulfil their potential and have active lives.
Relevant qualification or experience preferred.
Knowledge & Skills
An understanding of how to support and facilitate in a way that empowers the person.
Good interpersonal skills and values reflecting social inclusion.
Excellent and effective communication skills.
Excellent listening skills.
Good organisational skills.
Understands the crucial role that family carers play and the value of their contribution.
Working knowledge of good person-centred practice.
The gentleman has a wide range of interests. He is looking to recruit someone with some similar interests.
He is looking for someone with a good sense of humour, down to earth, likes a good blether and a bit of banter but is also a good listener.
The person should be good at connecting into community activities and making contacts/networks

6 month probation, with a 1 weeks’ notice in this time
