**Main duties of the job**:
We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated Nursing Associate or Assistant Practitioner to join our friendly and supportive team in the Emergency Department at Barnet Hospital.

You will work as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team providing planned care and delivering the highest standards of patient care within the ED. **Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:

- the nursing associate is able to safely demonstrate and maintain competence of the following procedures:

- use manual techniques and devices to take, record and interpret vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, pulse oximetry, blood pressure monitoring
- safe administration of medicines via oral, topical and inhalation routes
- safe administration of injections using subcutaneous and intramuscular routes
- adminstration of medicines via the enteral route
- administer enemas and suppositories
- undertake routine venepuncuture, phlebotomy and ECGs
- measure and interpret blood glucose and Ketone levels
- monitoring accurate intake and output charts (fluid balance)
- wound care
- wound closure using simple techniques such as glue and steristrips
- best practice infection control
- continence assessment
- diabetes care
- chronic disease management
- pressure area care
- bowel care
- palliative care
- male and female catheterisation
- pain assessment
- documentation
- To establish effective working relations with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to promote good communication and a multi-disciplinary approach to patient

**Education & professional Qualifications**:

- Registered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
- Nursing Associate foundation degree qualification
- GCSE Grade A-C in Maths and English or skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Insight into how to evaluate own strengths and development needs, seeking advice where appropriate
- Experience of providing and receiving complex, sensitive information
- Experience of working in an acute hospital

**Desirable criteria**:

- experience of working in an Emergency department

**Skills and aptitudes**:

- Able to undertake the clinical skills outlined in the Job description
