This is an exciting opportunity to join a multi-disciplinary public health team in a beautiful part of the country. We are looking for an outstanding individual to fill this senior post.

You will provide public health expertise to support a wide range of local authority and Integrated Care System activities.

On behalf of the Council, you will support the development of inter-agency and interdisciplinary short and long-term strategic plans for securing health improvement both in the general population and in vulnerable groups at high risk of poor health and/or reduced life expectancy.

This is an ideal opportunity for a suitably qualified and skilled Public Health Consultant who wishes to pursue a wider career in local government as well as within public health.

**What will you be doing?**
- You will provide expert public health advice on the broad agendas of:

- Health protection.
- Health improvement.
- Healthcare public health including specialist Public Health advice to NHS commissioners.
- You will provide public health input to the planning and delivery of health and social care services across South Gloucestershire and the Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care System. This will include developing and supporting the local plans to prioritise investment based on health need and providing advice to commissioners on evidence of cost-effectiveness for health interventions.
- To deliver this challenging role you will be someone who:

- Can cope with multiple and changing demands.
- Meet tight deadlines.
- Deal with complex public health issues, advise the Health & Wellbeing Board and make recommendations regarding services, patient care and the wider determinants of health.

**What we need from you**:

- You will be on the GMC Specialist Register/GDC Specialist List in dental public health/UK Public Health (Specialist) Register (UKPHR).
- You will have a strong commitment to public health principles, be able to prioritise work, and work well against a background of change and uncertainty, being adaptable to situations and able to handle people of all capabilities and attitudes.
- Be self-motivated, pro-active, and innovative with high standards of professional probity and have a commitment to team-working, and respect and consideration for the skills of others.
- To be a strategic thinker with proven leadership skills and effective interpersonal, motivational, and influencing skills and have project management, staff management and budget management skills plus practical experience in facilitating change.
- Have an ability to respond appropriately in unplanned and unforeseen circumstances and a sensible negotiator with practical expectation of what can be achieved.
- Ability to design, develop, interpret, and implement policies, to be substantially numerate, with highly developed analytical skills using qualitative and quantitative data.
- Have a high level of understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice, health promotion, health economics and health care evaluation.
- To understand the NHS, local authorities and social services as well as the social and political environment and methods of developing clinical quality assurance, quality improvement and evidence based clinical and/or public health practice.
