Bristol, United Kingdom Bristol City Council Full time

**Fixed Term for 2 years, Part Time 22.5 hours per week.**

We have a fantastic new opportunity for a Senior Public Health Specialist in Tobacco Control to join the Improving Health team within the Communities and Public Health Division at Bristol City Council.

Working within this team you will be required to ensure services and interventions are based on an understanding of needs, that they address health inequalities, and are based on evidence of effectiveness. You will also have a role in monitoring the performance of our providers and supporting the wider system to engage in smoking cessation and tobacco control activities and interventions.

You will work with colleagues and partners locally and across the Integrated Care System to address nicotine addiction, including local interventions and the new Government Stopping the Start agenda.

You will have a passion for improving the health of our population with a focus on reducing the inequalities created by nicotine addiction. You will be a creative and flexible thinker, excellent communicator, and have significant knowledge and experience in the field of tobacco control.

You will be highly organised with excellent skills in programme and project management, data analysis, and have a good understanding of commissioning processes.

You should be comfortable with working autonomously and at pace, and with liaising, collaborating, and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders.

This is a part time role which is designed to work closely and collaboratively with the existing part time Senior Public Health Specialist in Tobacco Control. These posts will be supported by a Partner and Programme Officer, and report directly to the Consultant in Public Health.

Working hours are flexible and hybrid working is offered.

**Why Bristol City Council?**

At Bristol City Council, we go that extra mile for our people; we offer a work environment which is fast moving and supportive, giving you the chance to use your skills and develop new ones within a high-profile organisation. For the majority of our roles hybrid working arrangements are available, giving teams the opportunity to work in a way that suits them, balancing service need and individual choice - mixing both home and office working.

Join us and you’ll receive an excellent rewards package including flexible working and flexitime, membership of the Local Government Pension scheme, and a generous annual leave allowance. In addition, you’ll be working in a supportive environment where you’ll have the chance to make Bristol a better place and contribute to its future.

**How do I apply?**

**For permanent Bristol City Council employees, this post will be a secondment.
**For employees who are currently on a fixed term contract with Bristol City Council, the secondment must not extend beyond the end of the fixed term period to ensure there is a substantive post to return to.**

**If you are currently a casual worker or a member of an employment agency (currently working with Bristol City Council) this post will be a fixed term contract.**

**Interview dates: 21 and 22 February 2024.**
