To act as a key resource in the provision, review and development of resuscitation practice in the clinical environment. To organise, plan and provide resuscitation training to various levels of employees and appropriate individuals within the Trust.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Resuscitation Practitioner to join our team. As an experienced clinician you will provide care and specialist advice in the clinical area in relation to equipment, the deteriorating patient pathway, cardiac arrest prevention and management.

Southend is a Resuscitation Council registered course centre for the ALS, EPALS and NLS courses. The Resuscitation Practitioner team provide all levels of resuscitation training to the multidisciplinary team.

You will participate in service improvement and audit activities. You will also deputise in the day to day management of the service in the absence of the Lead.

1. Communication
- To communicate appropriately and effectively with a wide range of individuals within the organisation including, the full clinical multidisciplinary team, management, patient’s and relatives.
- Provide technical and expert clinical advice in emergency situations.
- Advise and guide the appropriate Trust committees with interest in resuscitation.
- Deliver sensitive and complex information to clinical teams and patients and/or relatives in challenging and emotive situations.
- Establish and develop effective communication with all disciplines, promoting good working relationships.

2. Analytical and Planning
- Collate and input national cardiac arrest audit data and share outcomes.
- Undertake local clinical emergency audits and evaluate findings ensuring they are shared with appropriate stakeholders and divisions.
- Undertake equipment audits and plan any remedial interventions or recommendations.
- Oversee DNACPR auditing and ensure outcomes are cascaded and actioned.
- Utilise Trust systems to plan training delivery for in-hospital resuscitation training or Resuscitation Council UK training courses.
- Organise nationally recognised training courses, for example the Resuscitation Council UK Advanced Life Support Course.
- In liaison with the service Lead ensure that appropriate risk assessments are undertaken and that agreed action plans are implemented.
- Undertake a leading role in the undertaking of investigations.
- Ensure systems, equipment and training are appropriate and effective in ensuring a constant state of resuscitation preparedness within the clinical environments.

3.0 Clinical Duties
- Attend clinical emergency calls as a member of the site resuscitation team providing expertise and facilitating the implementation of current guidelines and evidence based practice.
- Act as a professional resource and specialist practitioner to offer clinical advice on all aspects of resuscitation.
- Monitor the practice of the resuscitation team, ensuring procedures are carried out with full regard for the safety of the patient and staff involved and intervening if required escalating concerns appropriately.
- Following appropriate training/competency assessment, undertake clinical procedures including (but not limited to) airway management, phlebotomy, intravenous cannulation, intravenous medicines administration, defibrillation, transcutaneous pacing and insertion of intraosseous access.
- Administer medicines via prescription / Patient Group Directive / Independent prescribing / Authority to administer without direction; dependent on qualifications held.
- Be accountable for own practice and take every reasonable opportunity to improve knowledge and professional competence in accordance with the NMC / HCPC code of professional conduct and other appropriate trust and statutory guidelines.
- Maintain clinical skills and work in the acute clinical environment as appropriate.
- Provide specialist advice to clinical staff and managers on issues relating to resuscitation, cardiac arrest prevention, the deteriorating patient pathway and resuscitation equipment.
- Be flexible in relation to working times to fit in with the needs of the service. This will include working unsocial hours and over the weeke
