Data is recognised as a critical asset within Serco both in terms of the value it can bring and the risk it presents. Following the formation of a central data function in the UK & Europe division, there is a requirement for a central role to support stakeholders to implement and embed the data governance and management framework of the organisation to ensure data is managed as an asset.

As a result, we are seeking an experienced Head of Data Governance & Management to provide strategic oversight, leadership and guidance in all aspects of data governance and data management.

In this new role, you will support with building a data governance culture across the organisation. You will ensure high standards are maintained in-line with policy, regulations and ethical requirements. You will also work with other divisional colleagues to ensure that the data governance framework is standard and has global applicability across Serco’s business.

**As part of this you’ll**:
Lead the development, implementation and management of the data governance framework, policies and standards, ensuring data privacy, security and compliance with relevant regulatory requirements
Support the data strategy execution, working with other functional and divisional colleagues to execute the data strategy
Monitor adherence to data governance policies, standards and the framework
Provide internal support to data owners and stewards to implement data governance practices within their domain areas
Maintain effective long-term relationships at a senior level with key decision-makers and influencers
Implement and establish wider data management competencies within the organisation (such as data quality assurance, metadata management, master data management and development of data standards)
Support data risk owners in understanding and managing the organisational data risks and issues
Work with the learning team and the business to develop and maintain training and guidance relating to data governanc

**What you’ll need to do the role**:
Passion and enthusiasm about data governance
Strong knowledge of data governance and management best practices within a similar organisation
Ability to understand and identify business requirements and use cases for data governance
Knowledge about data governance frameworks and best practice
Understanding of data governance tools and technology
Good understanding of regulatory and compliance data policies
Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills
Knowledge of risk management principles and appropriate levels of controls
Experience of leading on data governance initiatives
Good understanding of data management concepts such as data cataloguing, business glossaries and data quality measures
Analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex data issues
Membership in a professional body or qualifications in data management is desirable
