We are seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious and motivated individual to lead the Coroners Service Team delivering a key frontline service on behalf of the Senior Coroner for Berkshire.

**About the role**

The successful person will be an effective people manager who is empathic and supportive but will also ensure that the best possible service is delivered by the team for Berkshire residents. You will have a positive outlook as well as high levels of resilience and emotional intelligence to deal with service challenges.

Working with a wide variety of people and organisations, the ability to build relationships based on trust, understanding and mutual respect is essential. Interacting with key stakeholders will be essential as well as managing contracts which underpin the work of the service. You should be self-motivated, setting clear objectives whilst also responding to the unpredictable demands on the service whilst dealing with members of the public at emotional times of their lives.

You will have proven experience as a manager and demonstrate the ability to lead and develop the team of Berkshire Coroner Service staff, participating in recruitment, training and performance monitoring. Experience of project management, service improvement initiatives and supporting a team through change will also be important.

The role is full time and based at the Town Hall, Reading, however you may be required to travel to various locations within Berkshire. Flexibility over working hours and willingness to participate in an out of hours call out rota will be required.

**About you**
- Educated to degree level, or equivalent.
- Experience of working within a coronial service
- Experience of managing a team and service resources
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Experience of building effective partnerships both internally and externally
- Ability to innovate and improve service delivery.
