- 032024-165The Student Governance team at Birmingham City University is seeking an experienced casework co-ordinator to assist in the day-to-day administration of its busy casework team. The role involves working closely with colleagues within Student Governance and across the wider University, and in particular from the faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences, to administer the following University procedures:

- Academic Misconduct
- Student Disciplinary (Non-Academic)
- Fitness to Practise
- Academic Appeals
- Student Complaints
- Extenuating Circumstances

There may also be involvement in other areas of Student Governance work as necessary.

This is an exciting role where you will help to ensure the quick and satisfactory resolution of various issues touching on the experience of the University’s students. You must be highly organised, have excellent communication skills and be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines at once. For this role you will be based in our City South campus in Edgbaston where our Health, Education and Life Sciences Faculty is based. There may be requirements to attend the City Centre campus for work and training purposes.

Currently the team is operating on a hybrid working pattern with some home-based and some on-campus work: however, this model is under regular review and you should be prepared to work full-time on campus if required.

In delivering casework activities you will need to:

- Process electronic paperwork across all procedures in a timely and confidential manner
- Liaise directly with students, staff, and other stakeholders to progress cases, flexing your communication according to audience
- In some areas, conduct thorough assessments of evidence to reach clearly reasoned decisions
- Be proactive and very well organised, juggling multiple deadlines across multiple procedures at any given time
- Be able to balance the need to be empathetic with the requirement to deliver all cases fairly and equitably, in line with procedure
- Keep clear records, ensuring information is kept up-to-date in a fast-paced environment
- Be flexible in your approach, working as part of a casework collective to meet team priorities and deliver team goals
- A degree or equivalent professional qualification. Equivalence may be accepted through demonstrating comparable skills and ability to:

- Make decisions and solve problems in a complex environment
- Assemble, evaluate and analyse information to inform sound judgements.
- Communicate effectively.
- Adopt a pro-active and self-managing work style.
- Significant experience in a similar administrative role including casework management preferably within higher education.
- A high level of numeracy and literacy.
- Excellent IT skills including MS Office and student information systems or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A self-managing work style with the ability to prioritise, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
- Able to demonstrate:_
- Ability to assimilate large quantities of written and verbal communication quickly and produce accurate and timely case summaries.
- Understanding of student experience issues.
- Understanding of information governance, dealing with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality in line with data protection principles and legislation
