**Diabetes Clinical Fellow Job Description**

The post will be for 6-12 months and will be based at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. This post is aimed at doctors who have completed CMT and are considering a career in Diabetes & Endocrinology.

**Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde**

The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is a new purpose built hospital that opened its doors in May 2015. The hospital has 1109 beds and will provide medical care to a population of around 700000 people in west and south Glasgow. The hospital provides the full range of medical and surgical services including many tertiary specialties including neurology, ENT and renal medicine. It is also be one of the 4 hospitals in Scotland to admit major trauma cases from next year.

We enjoy close links with Glasgow’s three universities and make a significant contribution to teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Research also has a high profile within the organisation. We provide excellent facilities for students and their tutors in the Wolfson Medical School, based at Glasgow University.

**The work of the Diabetes Department**

The Diabetes / General Medicine Wards (5A, 5B & 11D) consist of 72 beds. These are staffed Monday-Friday by 3 teams of D&E Consultants supported by an SpR attached to each ward as well as other junior trainees.

The Endocrinology and Mineral Metabolism outpatient department (clinic G) hosts clinics most days of the week. Clinic G is also the base for the QEUH Diabetes Foot Service.

There are also clinics at The New Victoria ACH (Type 1 South Hub) and Gartnavel Diabetes Centre (Type 1, Type 2 & non-Type-1/2 West Hub), along with links to Young Adult Diabetes Services, currently based at West Glasgow AC.

The QEUH Diabetes Inpatient Team comprises a Consultant, StR and three DSNs and responds to Trakcare referrals from QEUH and associated South Sector sites, including the West of Scotland Cancer Centre.

At the QEUH site there is a new teaching and research centre and purpose built office accommodation. The hospital has been fully operational since June 2015.
