Contract: 12 month fixed-term contract

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

This is a newly created role supporting Cancer Research UK’s Data Privacy Design & Assurance team which is part of our innovative Technology directorate. As a Security & Privacy Adoption Advisor, you will take ownership of the team’s key stakeholder relationships and communications strategy acting as their representative to non-technical stakeholders across the organisation (circa 4,000 staff).

This is an opportunity for a Communications and/ or Learning & Development professional to build their knowledge of data protection & information security while implementing a strategic approach to reduce security and compliance incidents caused by staff and volunteers’ actions.

You will add significant value in shaping and protecting the charity by embedding a comprehensive culture of learning and development approach to improve good practices across the organisation. This will involve creating and developing training materials, ongoing awareness activities, and events for colleagues both within and outside the team.

What will I be doing?
- Acting as the communications bridge between our technical Data Privacy Design & Assurance team and the wider organisation to build awareness of the team’s role in protecting the organisation and embed a culture of learning and development on information security.
- Understanding how individual behaviour increases security & compliance risk for organisations and developing an approach to mitigating these risks.
- Supporting the development of key reporting metrics (including lagging and leading indicators of risk) and providing regular, concise, and timely reporting to senior stakeholders.
- Assisting in the development and delivery of Data Protection & Information Security training and awareness/ communications strategy.
- Developing an understanding of key stakeholders of the Information Security & Privacy Team, assessing the nature and health of these relationships, and overseeing plans to improve.
- Assessing training and awareness needs for all Cancer Research UK staff and volunteers.
- Developing an approach to upskill colleagues and raise awareness of key data protection and information security messages.
- Managing and developing Data Protection & Information Security communications, events, and learning platform content.
- Developing new creative content - this may include SharePoint content, content for direct messages, interactive content (e.g. online and in-person interactive activities)
- Managing the rollout of training and awareness activities (including measuring & driving competition rates).
- Delivering in-person training to staff where required.

What skills are you looking for?
- Communications, learning & development (L&D), or similar background with experience engaging stakeholders and developing their technical knowledge in a creative way (you do not need a Technology, Data, or Assurance background to succeed in this role).
- Strong written and oral communication and listening skills.
- An ability to explain complex technical requirements in clear language to non-technical specialists.
- Driven change and influenced behaviour outside of the immediate team or hierarchy
