There are TWO (2) posts of consultant paediatrician with a special interest in Ambulatory care coming up to join the existing team of 12 Consultants

All post holders should be able to provide acute paediatric emergency and ambulatory care and provide Consultant of the week cover on Paeds and Neonates as well as take on-call in both acute Paediatrics and neonatology (level 2)

Outpatient activities provides an opportunity to further develop special interest and it is expected that the 2 new Consultants will individually and within teams provide services in

**Post 1**: Specialist interest in Ambulatory Care and Epilepsy

**Post 2**: Specialist interest in Ambulatory Care with Safeguarding Lead

The successful applicant for Post 2 will be provided training before taking up the Safeguarding Lead post.

**PA’s**: 10 Programmed Activities

**Period**: Fixed Term appointment for One year. It is expected that these two locum posts and the two existing locum posts will become substantial posts.

**Reports to**: Clinical Lead

Applications are invited for 2.0wte Consultant Paediatricians to join 12 other Acute Paediatricians in the department. The post will be based at Southend University Hospital.

Both posts will complement the existing 12 consultants to provide attending and on-call services for General Paediatrics and Level 2 Neonatal Unit.

**On call**: With these 2 posts the on-call commitments will become 1 in 14.

Monday - Friday we have three consultants present on site from 0900-1700 (PAU, Paediatric Ward, NICU) and two consultants between 1700-2200 on site and one consultant on-call off site from 2200-0900.

Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays we have two consultants covering PAU, Paediatric Ward and NICU between 0900-2200 and one consultant on-call off site from 2200-0900.

Weekdays the role also includes 1 in 14 Safeguarding on-calls between 1300-1700. Weekends the on-call consultant also covers Safeguarding on-calls.

**Weekly Timetable**:
The changing nature of the contracting process makes it essential that all consultants have a flexible approach to working arrangements which may include innovative working patterns, including 7-day working in the future. The job plan will be reviewed at regular intervals following the initial appointment.

The job plan (for a full-time contract) will consist of the following (provisional timetable below):

- Direct Clinical Care: 8.5 PAs on average per week

(Includes clinical activity, clinical related administrative activity, predictable and unpredictable work)
- Supporting Professional Activities: 1.5 PAs on average per week

(Includes CPD, audit, teaching and research)
- Additional payment for on call will be calculated once job plan is finalised.
