The Supervised Contact Centre is part of the Permanency Service within Children's Social Care. This post will facilitate and deliver contact which provides a safe environment for children to have supervised contact with their parents and other family members. The role will be expected to be promoting contact for children at risk who are undergoing assessment within a statutory team and for children looked after; The contact centre undertakes the S.34 Children Act 1989, which places a duty on local authorities to promote contact between any children looked after and their parents, relatives and friends, where this is consistent with the child’s welfare and safety.

About the role

To provide a high quality focused and safe contact service for children and their families/carers to pursue the best possible outcomes for children and young people in relation to contact arrangements and life story work, the role will have a strong focus on safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the young people, giving due considerations to their race, culture, religion and linguistic background.

Contact between children and families/carers will be well planned and organised and the role will be expected to ensure firm and consistent boundaries are set and followed, appropriate risk assessments are undertaken to consider difficult or challenging contact and to maintain records of interactions (contact notes), child protection concerns and health and safety issues.
- Proven and well-developed skills of working in partnership with parents and carers delivering parenting interventions through group work and individual sessions.
- Demonstrable skills in managing priorities, prioritising a workload and working under pressure, displaying initiative and creativity to meet agreed deadlines.
- Sound knowledge of good practice in safeguarding, child protection and ethical practice in relation to working with families.
- Well established verbal and written communication skills, a high standard of ICT literacy; and experience of keeping and maintaining records and case record management systems.
- Experience of building strong partnerships within a multi-agency environment, maintaining relationships and advocating the voices of those we are working with.
- Strong ability to deal with and manage difficult and challenging situations with service users in the delivery of the work
- Prepare and present reports and records as required, and have the ability to represent the feedback and observations of the child and family where required.
