**Job Purpose**
To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by delivering, organising and reviewing teaching, assessment and administration associated with Level-1 courses in the Life Sciences Portfolio. To support students transitioning into higher education. To undertake scholarship to enhance learning and teaching.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
1. Make a substantial contribution to delivering and leading teaching, supervision and assessment activities, prioritising Level-1 undergraduate courses, and contributing to other undergraduate/postgraduate programmes where required.
2. Carry out course administration within required timescales ensuring effective communication of information, in particular assessment requirements and criteria and timely and constructive feedback on assessment.
3. Take a lead in the on-going development and design of the curriculum in a manner that supports a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment.
4. Develop effective approaches to the use of learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, feedback and assessment. This may involve blended and/or online provision.
5. Ensure an inclusive and evidence-based approach to facilitating learning in a range of face-to-face and potentially online delivery formats such as tutorials, lectures, problem-based learning, that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
6. Develop effective working relationships with students and, in partnership with relevant student services teams, respond appropriately to the diverse range of learning approaches and learner needs.
7. Develop a growing portfolio of scholarship outputs and activities by undertaking methodologically rigorous, educationally relevant, enquiries into student learning and disseminate evidence to enhance your own, and potentially others’, teaching practices. Attend and participate in appropriate seminars and conferences to support research-led teaching and scholarship in your disciplinary and/or professional area.
8. Develop relationships with external stakeholders in support of knowledge exchange, public understanding and appropriate forms of outreach such as widening access.
9. Participate in activities associated with student recruitment (e.g. open days), orientation and induction and other College and University initiatives such as support for student transitions, employability and student mobility as appropriate.
10. Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
11. Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Associate Dean, Life Sciences Portfolio.
12. Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, Inspiring People Changing The World.

**Knowledge & Skills**

**Essential**:

C1 Track record of scholarship or research within Life Sciences, and of development and delivery of teaching.
C2 Proven ability to design, prepare and enhance course content, teaching materials, and assessments.
C3 Track record of providing learning support to students, including students transitioning into higher education.
C4 Ability to communicate complex or conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding, and developing early career academic colleagues.
C5 Continuing engagement with current practice and developing knowledge.
C6 Ability to contribute to broader leadership and management activities along with an awareness of current and future priorities of the University/College/School/Service.
C7 Proven commitment to supporting the career development of colleagues and to other forms of collegiality appropriate to the career stage.

**Experience**

**Essential**
E1 Experience and achievement in a relevant field of biology, reflected in an expanding personal academic portfolio.
E2 Experience of developing and demonstrating teaching and research methods and devising models, approaches, techniques, and critiques.

**Terms and Conditions**
Salary will be Grade 8, £48,350 - £56,021 per annum.
This post is full time and open ended.
